Homebrew Anilíthou Species Details
Referred to as 'Psychés apó polýtimous líthous' and 'Animagens' by old texts ; Pronounced Ani-leo (soft e)
A species of spiritual people infused with lost souls and space dust, becoming one with the nature around them. These people have gained a gemstone-like appearance and animalistic traits to match their infused kin. They are free spirits with a knack for magic and nature. Originating near the Astral Citadel, these children of the planets slowly incorporated into society, while still keeping their connections to their ancestors alive. They are often found among graveyards and areas of mass death, slowly turning the area into a field of delicate crystals and winding nature. They often prefer to commune with the wondering souls and the Einamils than but have been open to talking to whoever approaches, often resonating best with other astral races and species connected to the Quori (dream realm). Most Anilíthou are naturally curious and easily excitable, but can be naive about the world or overly-optimistic in low hope situations, which has been know to cause strain in their relations.
Anilíthou prefer to live amongst the gemstone and crystals of their home or tribes lands, as they not only enjoy the crystals but rely on them. Anilíthou do not heal naturally, so if they are injured they must find either magical or crystalline means to heal. This is often done through healing magic/potions (which can make them sick if they consume too many too quickly) or through eating the crystals and gemstones of their home. The crystals also extend their tremorsense and allow for telepathic communication between each other, creating a solid protective barrier for the crystalline people.
---Einamils are collections of souls that join together as one to remain on the material plane. They often appear as large animals, with the size increasing the more souls are convened. They come in an array of colors and have a see-through gemstone-like appearance. It was originally believed that the Anilíthou came from the Primordial realm due to their resemblance to the Genasi and that Einamils were not known yet. It was later discovered that an Anilíthou is created when a mortal being willingly converges with an Einamil, creating a new and more stable collective. The relation between the conjoined Einamil and the mortal is benevolent and mutualistic, as the mortal is often in dire straights when they are approached by an Einamil and the Einamil does not wish for its joined host to be harmed (they have said they view their conjoined as their own children). While anyone can become an Anilíthou through the Einamils, both species can separately be born, as long as there are gemstones and nature around.
Anilíthou Traits
They have the following abilities: Elemental infusion, Soul Guardians, Mohs Protection, and Community ResonanceElemental infusion
You have advantage when dealing with older forms of magic like runes or ancient powers. You also have innate knowledge on carving runes and gain a +3 infusing them into something.
You also gain the following features:
- Resistance to psychic and poison damage, take 1d6 less necrotic damage, take 1d6 more bludgeoning damage (depending on armor), and you can not be disintegrated (appears as the petrification immunity)
- You can not heal using a medicine check or rests, and healing spells only give half. You can heal through potions or consuming crystals/gemstones
- The concentration of modern health potions can sometimes make you sick. For every health potion you consume depending on size, roll the respective die (d20 for common, d12 for uncommon, d10 for rare, d8 for very rare). If you get below 3/4ths of the base roll, you CAN NOT consume a healing potion until the next dawn or suffer 3dx of acid damage (ignore resistances) as the concentration of magic eats through the crystalline weave in your body. This threshold increases to 1/2 after 2 potions, to 1/4 after 4 potions, and caps after 6 potions.
- The DM can also make the die decrease with each potion to make it simpler. So for a small potion, decrease to a d12 after 2, d10 after 3, d8 after 4, and d4 after 5 with the player needing over half to pass. The cap can remain at 6 or increase/decrease at the dms discretion)
- You can speak common, primordial, and resonance (the Anilíthou language)
- You have expertise with navigators tools and proficiency with spacecrafts due to your connection to the astral sea
- You get a +2 to insight as you can feel the faint vibrations of lying creatures through the crystals on your body
- You gain a proficiency in a Nature's Intuition skill due to your connection to the growing environment around you and woven through you
- You have dark vision within 60 ft (as standard) and tremorsense within 10 ft
- Spells that change your plane, such as the banishment spell, send you back to your or your Einimal's home planet/plane
Soul Guardians
Roll a d4 for how many additional traits you gain from the animals you merged with. Create a list of animals you would want to see in your character (20 min) and roll the appropriate dice to decide. The animals must make sense for where you live (so no polar bear in a desert) or have traveled (You have to know it exists). These features provide little to know technical abilities and have a crystalline resemblance. Some common features are:
- Horns - which may give a goring ability
- Hooves - which may give a climbing speed
- Claws - which may give a small slashing attack
- Fangs - which may give a bite attack
- Tail - which may give an extra appendage
- Scales - which may give resistances
- Wings - which may give a fly speed
And so on.
Mohs Protection
As a bonus action, you can expend either 3 gemstones or gain a point of exhaustion (2020 rules) to generate a stone form around you of your chosen gemstone. This can be done 1 time per day and restores after a long rest. When in this form:
- You are resistant to piercing damage, but vulnerable to bludgeoning
- Your AC increases by 2 regardless of armor
- Beacon: Direct light sources reflect off of you, which can be aimed with a bonus action to attempt to blind a creature. Roll d20+dex mod for 2 limbs, or d20+ half dex (rnd down) for chest or one limb; this acts as a concentration, and you can not attack with the limbs used to reflect (so if you use your arms, you can't use a weapon). You can also try to quick flash an enemy to stun them, roll a contesting dex vs wisdom roll to stun until the end of their turn.
- Shrapnel: As an action, you can channel all the stones on you to a single area and shoot them in a line in front of you. This is a 30 ft line that affects everything in its line. The shrapnel deals 1d8 each round you held the stone form, but you take 1d4 for every round you held it as well, as the stones rip from your skin to the threat. Once you use this ability, you are incapacitated for 1 round.
This feature lasts for 1 hour or until it is willingly dropped.
Community Resonance
Twice per day, you can ask these souls for additional information they might know like:
- Battle tactics (gain pack tactic) (gain +2 to athletics and acrobatics)
- Enemy knowledge (learn resistances or abilities) (gain +2 to insight)
- Natural information (like planet location or environment) (gain +2 to survival and nature until used again)
- Historical insight (gain +2 to history)
As a bonus action, you can also grow and remove small gemstones from your body to use as physical connectors to others. You can telepathically message a creature within 30 ft who has the crystal (action) or enter a trance and see through the eyes of the crystal's holder as if you were there. If the creature unknowingly has the crystal and you do not wish for them to know, you must make a stealth check for them to notice you sharing their senses (action). The crystals crumble to unusable dust after a long rest, and you must wait until another long rest to use this feature again.
Ability Score Increase
You gain a +2 to constitution and a +1 to either intelligence or wisdom
