Homebrew Blue Hair Sala'dhin Species Details

”Once, when I was lost, I drew my sword and let it dance within my hand. I watched as the light darted in all directions. After a time, my hand stopped and the light, reflecting off my blade, pointed to a far off land in the distance. I followed it for days and came to an oasis where I could re-supply. I never doubted for a moment I would be safe. The sun has never led our people astray.” -Vahan, the Iblis

Honor: Elves are a strongly well represented race with variants springing up from all over various realms. While some Elves define themselves by their noble birth, others will define themselves by their magical prowess. The Sand Elves of Sala’bhim define themselves by their honor.

Physical Description

Lean, but with rock-like skin, most Sand Elves stand slightly taller than most Humans. Their features are sharp as obsidian, but no less beautiful than their other elven cousins. Though averaging around 6 feet in height, they weigh upwards of almost 300 to 400 pounds due to their dense skin and patchy stone-like scales. Males and females stand about equal in height with men tending to be slightly bulkier. Sala'dhin are easily identifiable from other Elves due to their olive to gray toned skin. Their eyes also appear to be calmly shut, blocking intrusion from small irritants. When they open, they shine with a bright magical light that spells doom for their foes.

Origin Myth

The Sala'dhin are the first of the Elves to begin exploring the surface world once they returned to Xerros thanks to the Human Paragon. They scoured the world for years while searching for a suitable home. After a time, they landed on the continent called Horren. For centuries, they battled the ancient Lamia and their Primordial Serpent God, Wrathamon. One day their Sultan, a glass oracle, received a vision of the day Wrathamon would be betrayed by Lamia. Realizing that their troubles would be over in a matter of time, they took time into their own hands. Using an artifact called the Sands of Time, the Sand Elves traveled to a future where the Serpentfolk would no longer seek war from them. Once returned, they re-established peace and restarted their civilization.
Patron Deity: Like all other Elves, the Sala'dhin pay great respects to The Human Paragon in gratitude for returning them to Xerros and they celebrate Christmas in his honor. However, the Sand Elves worship a figure that is vague, even in their own culture, called The Sun King.

Society

The Sands of Sala’bhim are a harsh environment. A vast land covered in desert and scarce resources. Sand Elves tend to live in either nomadic family tribes, only uniting every few years to intermingle and arrange marriages. Others tend to live in one of the great Sun Cities. To the average person, a typical Sand Elf would probably come off as arrogant, stubborn, and lacking empathy. Though there are airs of truth to this stereotype, however, this attitude comes from a very long lifetime of living in a harsh land with sparse resources and centuries of battling the Primordial Serpents and their Lamia.
Sand Elves tend to make practical decisions rather than emotional ones. They are constantly torn between their desire to help, while sticking to their own complicated code of ethics. If a Sand Elf considers you to be a friend, you have found a powerful and dedicated ally.
Each family tribe serves their regional Sultan. The tribes can be called upon and drafted at any time as either military conscripts, joining the royal harems, or possibly as a volunteers for the Noble Philanthroper's Guild.
Population: Uncommon. Sala'bhim is not a large nation and the Sand Elves tend to stick to the continent of Horren and rarely leave unless it is for business or missions for the Noble Philanthroper's Guild.
Offspring: Sala'dhin can produce fertile offspring with most Human races, though struggle to produce children with Halflings. They can produce children with other Elves but prefer to keep the Elven races segregated. Children with other Fey and Yokai are possible but difficult to produce.
Reputation: Sand Elves have an uneasy alliance with the Lamia of Horren and a hostile relationship with the Tan Orcs of Anamigo. They have neutral relationships with most of Erovat, though they still honor the ancient alliance between Men and Elves. They distrust other Yokai like Okami or Nekomata.
Relationships: The Sand Elves still respect the Human/ Elf alliances created by The Human Paragon long ago (though the alliance is fresher to them due to time travel). They are often repulsed by the Halfling and Dwarf races and tend to ignore them. Recently they have come to an arrangement with the Lamia and hope to one day invade the Tan Orc lands of Anamigo.

Adventurers

Most realms have no problems displaying their military power and Sala’bhim is no exception. However, while they are determined to enjoy a military victory, they also feel the need to achieve a moral victory. The lands of Sala’bhim pride themselves in their honor, their might, and their aggressive generosity. Every year, the Noble Philanthroper's Guild sends a small army of warriors, craftsman, and magicians to other lands to serve as adventurers and champions of the small folk.
This show is to demonstrate the Sala’bhim goodwill to the lower classes, while sending a clear message to foreign leadership that they have the strength and the numbers to support themselves and others, sowing discord in local law-keepers.

Sala'dhin Names

Sand Elves have traditional family names as well as individual names, not unlike other men or elves. Nearly every Sala'dhin Great House is treated as significant, even those which are significantly less wealthy or influential. Each of these tribes hold a name that also acts as a title. The tribes are run by princes and princesses which form strong family units that are hierarchical.

Physiology and Philosophy

Sand Elves enjoy a tough body and a strong mind that is matched in their ethics.
Diet: Omnivores. Sand Elves enjoy a diet like any Human. They famously love citrus fruits and will pay good money for some.
Lifespan: Like most Elves, Sala'dhin can live to be hundreds of years old. They age much like Masics do, but are considered adults around age 50. Sand Elves can live up to 750 years old like other Elves, but due to their environment and the magical plagues that exist within Sala’dhin, they tend to have an average lifespan of around 500.
Alignment and Religion: Due to placing a great deal of value on their family units and sense of duty, most Sala'dhin tend to be lawful. Most tend to be neutral, well traveled Sand Elves will lean good, but it is not uncommon for Sala'dhin to become evil.

Hair Colors

Nearly all Sala'dhin have Red Hair in which they are very proud. However, a recent magical plague has caused many Sand Elves to become corrupted with magic, turning their hair to blue.
Blue Hair: A recent mutation caused by a series of magical plagues have infected many of the common families. These mutations are seen as an embarrassment and a genetic failure. They make excellent spellcasters.
Red Hair: Nearly every Sand Elf grows soft red hair, to which they are extremely proud of. Most Sand Elves grow their hair out and adorn them with special stylings. They make excellent martial warriors.

Your elf character has a variety of natural abilities, the result of thousands of years of elven refinement.

Ability Score Increase

Your Constitution score increases by 2, and your Charisma increases by 1.

Age

Although elves reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans, the elven understanding of adulthood goes beyond physical growth to encompass worldly experience. An elf typically claims adulthood and an adult name around the age of 100 and can live to be 750 years old.

Size

Elves range from under 5 to over 6 feet tall and have slender builds. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

Accustomed to twilit forests and the night sky, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Keen Senses

You have proficiency in the Perception skill.

Fey Ancestry

You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can’t put you to sleep.

Trance

Elves don’t need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.

Desert Home

Hot environments make you feel at home. You automatically pass Constitution checks to avoid exhaustion as a result of extreme heat. Furthermore, you ignore difficult terrain caused by sand.

Natural Armor

Sand Elves have very dense skin and are covered in patches of stone-like scales. You gain +1 to Armor Class, regardless of what armor you're wearing.

Sand Elf Weapon Training

You have proficiency with daggers, scimitars, short bows, and light crossbows.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Scim (Elvish dialect).

Spellrage

The rage that the Sand Elves are famous for increases the potency of the Blue Hair’s spell power. As a bonus action, you open your eyes to reveal sinister red irises for 1 minute. During this time, any time you would cast a spell that deals dice damage, add your intelligence or charisma modifier (whichever is higher) to the damage result. You may use this ability again after taking a long rest.
