Homebrew Chiropteran Species Details
Usually found in dark caves, Chiropteran, most often know by others as Batfolk, they are often misunderstood by others around them. The Chiropteran are functionally blind with clouded eyes which often unsettles people if large talons don't. While their eyes don't work, their incredible hearing counter acts this through echo location.
Echo Location
Chiropteran have had to adapt to their dark environment, forcing them to be blind to visual light. However, they gained incredible hearing and the ability of echo location as a result of their adaption. Chiropteran use their echo location as their sight through clicking and high-pitched squeaking. A Chiropteran have a vision range of 100ft and can only make out the rough size and shape of the environment around them. They cannot make out visible details of objects and people such as color of objects, race and items being held by others. In loud environments (at DM's discretion) a Chiropteran's vision is reduced to 50ft. While in silent environments (at DM's discretion) a Chiropteran's vision is increased to 150ft. Chiropterans can let out a loud screech to increase their vision to 200ft for 1 turn. Chiropteran have advantage on perception checks when listening for noise. Because Chiropteran don't use visible light to see, they are able to see invisible objects and persons at lvl 12.
Talons
While their talons are most often used to climb walls and hold on to the ceiling of caves, they are also used for self defense. Chiropteran unarmed attacks are replaced with talon attacks that deal 1d6 damage and apply bleeding to the target on a failed constitution saving throw. Talon attacks can be used as a bonus action in combat.
Thin bones
To be able to fly, Chiropteran have had to evolve to have thin, delicate bones. due to their thin bones, Chiropteran cannot use heavy armor or great weapons. Medium armor reduces a Chiropteran's movement speed to 20ft and stops them from being able to fly.
Flight
While unarmored or wearing light armor, Chiropteran have a flight speed of 30ft.
Screech
Chiropterans can let out a loud screech to increase their vision to 200ft for 1 turn. Any creatures within 10ft of a Chiropterans during a screech are deafened and have disadvantage on attack rolls for 2 turns.
