Homebrew Batrachai Species Details
Upon meeting a Batrachai, their steady and focused nature immediately becomes apparent. Liberated from the oppressive caste system of the Grung, Batrachai resonate closer to their human relatives but remain aggressive in their pursuit of power. Due to their heritage being comprised of opposing races, many Batrachai are estranged from their human and Grung ancestors and instead live in Batrach-only communities. These communities usually stand as sharp exceptions in wealth and arcane ability due to the intense effort of each member across multiple generations.
Despite their broken past, Batrachai are known for fortitude in their adventures across the Lands Between, always chasing power for themselves and future generations. Throughout their lifetime, Batrachai go through numerous trials on their own accord in order to encourage resilience and personal growth. Their perilous quests result in them having an average life expectancy of around 40 years old (contrasting their natural life expectancy of 65).
Batrachai tend to aggregate in rainforests and wetlands, though there are smaller encampments to be found in caves, grasslands, and even deserts. In the millennia that Batrachai have existed and gone on their treacherous journeys, multiple tribes have appeared along rivers in the desert and have adapted to the incompatible environment.
Batrachai are a subset of Grung whose physicality lays on the border between human and Grung. They have much of the beneficial movement speed in water and trees as the Grung whilst living in a similar society to humans. Their small stature allows them to move easily through a multitude of suboptimal environments, and in a world where a bad first impression can mean death, their unthreatening appearance means they are often overlooked as a threat.
