Homebrew Zebra Centaur Species Details
Centaurs are known for the speed, strength, battle skills, and elegance. Zebra Centaurs, being smaller than the typical horse variants, tend to be a tad less intimidating but not any less fierce. Their intelligence, wisdom and strength make them equally capable in the arcane arts and martial ability. The striped patterns vary from person to person, and all take good care in the upkeep of their unique coats. Zebra Centaur families pride themselves on their history and heritage, so their surnames often hint at their ancestry, which hails from the vast and beautiful grasslands of the Feywild. They all share a longing for the freedom of galloping through the fields, gathering plants, fruits, and small game. The hunt is very much a part of rural and wild dwelling clans, and children are taught the skills with bow and spear at a young age. City living is rare and typically short-lived, serving a political or family-related purpose, but many families that find themselves spending more time in the urban environment gain some renown and power within their government and communities. Children mature quicker than human kids; around 8 years old. Their life span varies between 60-70 years on the mortal plane, but stories of old tell of those who are born in the Fey living to nearly 200 years. In their old age, Zebras begin the process of returning to the Fey to live out the last phase of their lives, possibly extending it for decades, with the tribes of their ancestors. This is known as The Ingress. The transition is difficult, as it typically splits parents from their adult children, but is is celebrated with eagerness and bitter-sweet joy.
