Homebrew ππ Reborn Dragonborn Species Details
ππ Reborn Dragonborn
A Reborn Dragonborn is a creature who once lived proudly among dragonkind but has crossed the boundary of death and somehow returned. Their resurrection has changed them, leaving their draconic heritage intertwined with the unnatural power of the grave.
They still resemble the Dragonborn they once were, but signs of death are difficult to hide. Their scales may be cracked, faded, scarred, or unnaturally cold. Their eyes might possess a faint spectral glow, and their breath may mist even in warm air. Some have little or no heartbeat, and many eventually realise that breathing has become little more than an old habit.
Despite their transformation, the power of their draconic ancestry remains. Their bodies retain their natural resilience, and the elemental energy once carried in their blood can still be unleashed through their breath weapon. However, death has altered this power. Flames may burn with ghostly light, lightning may crawl between lifeless scales, and other forms of draconic breath can take on similarly unnatural appearances.
Death has also left gaps within their memories. A Reborn Dragonborn may remember how to wield a weapon without remembering who taught them, recognise a language without knowing where they learned it, or feel an overwhelming connection to a person whose name and face have been forgotten.
These fragments can return unexpectedly through dreams, familiar places, treasured possessions, or moments of danger.
Some Reborn Dragonborn dedicate their second life to discovering what happened to them. Others choose to abandon the person they once were and forge an entirely new identity.
Yet one question follows nearly every Reborn Dragonborn:
Why did death let them go?
Whether their return was caused by powerful magic, divine intervention, a curse, an unfinished purpose, or something far stranger is rarely immediately clear.
Whatever the answer, a Reborn Dragonborn carries two legacies within themβthe ancient power of the dragon and the lingering touch of death.
They are living proof that sometimes even the grave is not the end.
