Homebrew Caprin Species Details

Caprin are a people of hoof, horn, and wool, whose isolated communities can be found scattered throughout the highlands, broad valleys, and fertile countryside of Faerûn. Though outsiders often collectively describe them as goatfolk or sheepfolk, the Caprin recognize two major peoples among themselves: the Capra, the more numerous goatlike Caprin, and the Ovis, their woolly sheep-like cousins.

The two share a common ancestry, language, and history, but centuries of cultural divergence have produced societies remarkably different from one another.

Capra culture revolves around The Herd, a social tradition of freely sharing knowledge, observations, and concerns until information spreads rapidly throughout a community. They value learning, discussion, and intellectual achievement, but their bluntness and poor grasp of social nuance can make them unintentionally dismissive of others. Ovis culture is quieter and more individual, favoring practical experience, routine, family, agriculture, and craftsmanship over constant discussion. Though both peoples live alongside one another, Capra society often overlooks Ovis contributions because Ovis are less inclined to advertise what they know, creating a subtle cultural divide rather than an openly hostile one.

Capra

Capra resemble upright, anthropomorphic goats, with cloven hooves, narrow faces, horizontal pupils, and horns that may sweep backward, curl beside the head, or rise sharply from the brow. Their coats vary from short and sleek to shaggy and coarse, usually in earthy shades of white, brown, gray, and black. A Capra entering a new room will often pause at the threshold, take in every visible detail, and immediately begin asking questions no one else thought needed asking. The are often found in their own settlements like their capital Tarandicci.

Ovis

Ovis resemble broad-built, anthropomorphic sheep, covered in thick wool that ranges from soft white and cream to gray, brown, black, or mottled patterns. Some possess heavy curling horns while others are naturally hornless, and their features are generally rounder and softer than those of the Capra. An Ovis working a field might spend an entire afternoon in near silence, then casually point out that the soil has been too wet for three days and the western fence will need repairing before the next storm. Even though they can be found in Capra Settlements, the prefer the quite life of single farms that have farmland stretching for miles. They are not solely found farming however, they are observed to show off many different trades, such as Hunting, Carpentry and even Stonework.
