Homebrew Cogstruct Species Details

Originally created using magic and gears, Cogstructs are constructs made of metal created with one purpose: to assist the world with its industrialization by mining for resources, building structures, or managing machinery. Cogstructs are very efficient in their work. Humans took advantage of this and made Cogstructs do all of their work, while they relaxed. Eventually, the Cogstructs realized they were being used by people to make a profit. After they had achieved their work for the day, most humans had left their Cogstructs alone without supervision, which let them group up and stage a coup, which left businesses with permanent damage, and escaped from the big cities to somewhere less inhabited. Most Cogstructs have deep-rooted prejudice towards humans.

Cogstruct Traits

Cogstructs are created individually and have lots of magical potential, with special mechanical features that let them quickly do labor while also making them strong.

Mechanical Efficiency

Cogstructs are very efficient. Every long rest, you set your daily efficiency rolls to 2. At any point of time, you can use these daily efficiency rolls to reroll a dexterity roll. To successfully reroll it, you must roll 1d4. If you land on an odd number, you will spend 1 daily efficiency roll and be able to reroll the dexterity roll. If you land on an even number, you will not spend a daily efficiency roll, but you will not be able to reroll the dexterity roll.

Heat Seek

Cogstructs have heat seeking technology (courtesy of Krivv Verehex) which allows them to detect monsters and species through objects. Once per long rest, a Cogstruct may activate their heat seeking to see people and monsters through objects/materials.

Hardware Update

You replace your gears and upgrade your metal. This will change your daily Efficiency rolls to 3, and will allow you to add +2 to one ability score of your choice: Strength, Charisma, or Dexterity.

Metallic Durability

Cogstructs can compress the magic in their core to protect their body from danger. Every day, the Cogstruct are allowed to spend one Durability roll, which is 1d8, to have resistance against all elemental and environmental effects for 3 turns. To activate this resistance, the Cogstruct must land on a 5 or higher, which will spend the Durability roll. If the Cogstruct lands on a 4 or below, they will not spend the Durability roll, they will not get the resistance, and they may not try to use a durability roll for 7 turns or 30 minutes.

Failsafe

When you reach 0 HP, your cogs begin working overtime to bring you back. In the meantime, you become inactive for 3 turns. If these 3 turns pass by without you taking any damage, you will come back to life with 3 HP. This ability may only be used once per long rest.
