Homebrew Bearfolk Species Details

Physical Description

 Bearfolk are humanoid bears, covered in fur from head to toe. They stand between 7 to 8 feet tall and weight 180 to 250 lb. The bearfolk colors of fur range from the brown of a Grizzly bear to the two tone of the Panda. While they have a tail, there are two distinct types. The stub tail is common among the male, the second is common among the females it is long and thickens out at the end.

History

 While the bearfolk are predominantly a peace-loving race, their history is marked with turmoil and strife. Thanks to their wise and peaceful nature, they forged a strong bond with four Fey entities who dwelled in the area. Referring to the Fey entities as the "Nature's Celestials", the bearfolk formed a system of worship around the four, and in turn, the "Celestials" granted the bearfolk knowledge and helped them hone their ties to philosophy and nature.

Society

 Each bearfolk belongs to a clan. bearfolk society has changed from its origins. Once the Bearfolk were a mighty empire, standing proudly beside their elven allies, now they are a simple people who want only peace and a safe home. Yet the world is a dangerous place, and only through an acceptance of the violence that comes with life can the bearfolk continue to prosper. At their core, the bearfolk treasure peace and creativity. The danger of their lives, however, has necessitated the evolution of a class of warriors to defend those ideals.

Bearfolk naming practices are similar to those of humans.

Male: Min-Su, Tonghyon, Ji-Hun, Konu, Polo, Po, Chen

Female: Ping, Nara, Mi-Ri, Tae-Hee, Ling, Chi-Un, Chi'un

Darkvision

 You can seen in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

You are proficient in the Acrobatics skill and you take half damage from falling.

Gourmand

Bearfolk are excellent cooks and brewers, You are proficient with cook's utensils and brewer's supplies.

Languages

 You can speak, read, and write Common and Elvish. The bearfolks language is described as elegant and playful but also empowering. It mostly consists of short words like nom, chi or fu. Recent discoveries have shown that it might be the second oldest written language.

You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.
