Homebrew Croclan Species Details

Croclan are towering, muscular beings who blend the cunning and brutality of apex crocodilian predators with humanoid intellect. Bound to the swamps and rivers, their natural armor and relentless ferocity make them a terrifying presence on any battlefield.

Playing a Croclan: DM Approval Required

Because of their volatile predatory instincts, playing a Croclan requires submitting a backstory for Dungeon Master review before joining the campaign.

When crafting your background, make sure to address:
Controlling the Frenzy: How does your character manage or suppress their primal urge to hunt and destroy?
Leaving the Swamps: What drove your character away from their native wetlands and into civilized lands?
Party Loyalty: What motivation or personal bond keeps your character from turning on companions in the heat of battle?

Croclan Traits

Your Croclan character has the following traits, granted by their predatory heritage.

Natural Armor

You have thick, scaly skin that shields you from harm. While you aren't wearing armor, your base Armor Class is 13 + your Dexterity modifier. You can use a shield and still gain this benefit.

Bite

Your fanged maw is a natural weapon, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with it, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Powerful Build

You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.

Hold Breath

Thanks to your aquatic physiology, you can hold your breath for up to 15 minutes at a time.

Frenzied Blood

When your primal instincts take over, you can tap into an innate savagery. As a bonus action, you can enter a frenzy for 1 minute, gaining the following benefits:

- You gain a bonus to the damage rolls of your melee weapon attacks and natural attacks that use Strength equal to your proficiency bonus.
- You have advantage on saving throws against being frightened.

Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.

Hunter of the Deep

You have honed your senses and predatory instincts in the murky depths. You gain proficiency in the following skills: Athletics and Stealth.
