Homebrew Desert Gnoll Species Details

Gnolls aren't typically the brightest of creatures, relying more on their strength and powerful senses for day to day life. This does not mean they cannot be cunning, however. Most clan leaders of this species are very capable strategists, and would be a more than worthy opponent in a battle of wits. The clans of this species are very matriarchal, with males being born at the lowest rung of the social ladder (with few exceptions). Male Gnolls, like real hyenas, are capable of advancing socially, although this is seen as a major life achievement. Females however, are typically born with a level of prestige, and thusly get a better education and better nourishment. The average female Gnoll measures approximately 7-7.5 feet tall, while the average male is between 5.5-6 feet in height.

Desert Gnoll Traits

As a Gnoll, you have the following traits.

Crushing Bite

Like real world hyenas, Gnolls are capable of cracking open bones with their sheer bite force, making their bites a potentially deadly attack. It is very common for disputes within a clan to be settled through unarmed combat, and biting is commonplace, although rarely fatal.

Keen Olfaction

Gnolls are built for scavenging and hunting prey, and have over time developed a very strong sense of smell in order to track down food sources. Because of this, many Gnolls have entered the bounty hunting business, since tracking down targets is almost second nature to them.

Imposing Figure

Due to the Gnolls' renowned savage nature and unpredictability, they are typically very intimidating to other races, particularly city dwellers.

Darkvision

Gnoll's often send out raiding parties in the darkest of nights to ensure the advantage of surprise. Because of this, they have developed powerful nightvision, and can see clearly up to 60 feet in front of them.
