Homebrew Grulke Species Details

Congratulations, crawler. You have selected the Grulke: an amphibious adventurer equipped with powerful legs and a tongue that should require a weapons permit. Your party’s concerns about personal space have just become mechanically relevant.

Amphibious: You can breathe both air and water, and you have a 30-foot swim speed. Flooded passageways are now passageways. Please remember that your teammates may still require oxygen, even when their contributions suggest otherwise.

Standing Leap: Your Long Jump is up to 15 feet, and your High Jump is up to 10 feet, with or without a running start. Yes, you can launch yourself from a standstill. No, this is not free movement. Jumping still spends movement. The accounting department refuses to recognize “boing” as a valid exemption.

Tongue Strike: Your tongue is a natural strike with 10-foot reach, dealing 1d6 + your Strength modifier Bludgeoning damage. You can now slap someone from across a modestly sized room without involving your hands. Civilization has peaked.

Sticky Pull: After hitting a Large or smaller creature with your tongue, you may force it to make a Strength saving throw against DC 8 + your Proficiency Bonus + your Strength modifier. On a failure, you pull it 5 feet toward you. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus.

This is an excellent way to drag an enemy into your party’s reach. It is also an excellent way to bring something with teeth closer to your face. We encourage you to distinguish between those situations before committing.

Breathe underwater. Leap over trouble. Lick trouble until it comes closer.

Please stop describing your combat technique as “getting a taste of the action.” The audience has suffered enough.
