Homebrew Dracaryn Species Details

Dracaryn — The Dragonblooded

“The dragons remember what mortals were taught to forget.”

The Dracaryn are a rare humanoid species whose ancestry carries traces of ancient draconic magic. Unlike Dragonborn, whose appearance is unmistakably draconic, the Dracaryn retain the features and proportions of humans, making their dragon heritage subtle but unmistakable to those who know what to look for.

Appearance
Dracaryn vary widely in appearance. Some possess only scattered scales along their necks, shoulders, or cheekbones, while others develop small horns, sharpened nails, elongated canines, or slender tails. Their eyes often possess reptilian pupils and reflect the colors of their ancestral bloodlines. Their scales may appear in shades of crimson, sapphire, emerald, silver, gold, violet, or obsidian. These features often become more pronounced with age or during moments of heightened emotion.

Origins
Ancient legends claim that the first Dracaryn appeared when powerful draconic magic became intertwined with mortal bloodlines during the earliest ages of Eldoria. Some believe their ancestors were blessed by dragons. Others claim they descend from mortals who formed magical bonds with the Firstborn. The truth has been obscured by centuries of lost records and forgotten history.

Society and Culture
Dracaryn rarely establish kingdoms of their own. Instead, they live among humans, elves, and other peoples of Eldoria. Some conceal their scales beneath clothing, while others proudly display them as evidence of their ancestry. Many Dracaryn families preserve oral histories describing dreams of ancient dragons, forgotten cities, and voices speaking in languages they have never learned.

Draconic Bloodlines
Every Dracaryn carries a particular draconic inheritance. This bloodline influences the coloration of their scales, the nature of their elemental abilities, and occasionally their temperament. Although their powers resemble those of dragons, Dracaryn remain individuals with their own personalities, beliefs, and destinies.

The Forgotten Blood
Some Dracaryn experience recurring dreams of seven great dragons gathered beneath an unfamiliar sky. Most dismiss these visions as ancestral memories or meaningless dreams. Yet certain scholars believe these visions may be connected to a forgotten chapter of Eldoria's history.
