Homebrew Dhampir (Human) Species Details
Their vampiric nature grants them heightened senses, unnatural agility, the ability to climb like a creature of the night, and a powerful connection to blood. Their bodies are more resistant to the forces of death than those of ordinary mortals, yet they remain living Humanoids rather than true Undead.
Unlike true vampires, Dhampirs do not suffer from sunlight sensitivity. They can walk freely beneath the sun, enter homes without invitation, benefit normally from healing magic, and aren't affected by abilities that specifically target Undead.
However, their gifts come with a price: the Hunger.
A Dhampir can survive on ordinary food and drink, but something deeper within them craves living blood. Ignoring that hunger for too long can make their vampiric instincts increasingly difficult to suppress.
Every Dhampir chooses how they respond to this darker nature. Some use their abilities to protect others and hunt the monsters they resemble. Others embrace their predatory instincts, using their supernatural gifts for personal power. Many exist somewhere between the two — capable of compassion, loyalty and heroism while carrying a darkness they cannot completely escape.
Dhampir (Human) Traits
Creature Type: Humanoid
Size: Medium (about 4–7 feet tall) or Small (about 2–4 feet tall), chosen when you select this species
Speed: 35 feet
Vampiric Stasis
Your physical form rests suspended between life and undeath, granting the following physical traits:
- Breathless: You do not need to breathe.
- Ageless: You are biologically immortal, do not suffer the frailty of old age, and cannot be aged magically.
- Resilience: You have Advantage on saving throws against the Poisoned condition and against taking Poison damage.
- Sustenance: You do not strictly require mundane food or water; your nutritional and biological need can be sustained entirely by consuming blood or utilizing your Vampiric Bite, if you so choose.
- Sleepless: You cannot sleep, and magic cannot put you to sleep. To gain the benefits of a Long Rest, you must spend at least 6 hours in an inactive, trance-like state, during which you remain conscious and aware of your surroundings.
Eyes of the Night
Your lineage grants vision in lightless realms.
- You have Darkvision out to a range of 60 feet. Within that range, you can see in dim light as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You cannot discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Vampiric Bite
Your fangs are a Natural Weapon, which counts as a Simple Melee Weapon with which you are proficient. As a Bonus Action, it deals 1d4 Piercing damage on a hit, and you use your Constitution modifier instead of Strength for attack and damage rolls with it.
- Predatory Mending: When you hit a creature that isn't a Construct or an Undead with this bite, you can regain Hit Points equal to the Piercing damage dealt. You can use this benefit a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.
- Desperate Siphon: While you have Bloodied status (half or fewer of your maximum Hit Points remaining), you have Advantage on attack rolls made with this bite.
Wall-Walker
Your vampire lineage allows you to effortlessly defy gravity:
- You gain a climbing speed equal to your walking speed (35 feet).
- You can move up, down, and across vertical surfaces and upside down along ceilings while keeping your hands completely free.
Predatory Claws
When your hands are free, you can lengthen your nails into sharp, twilight-tinged talons. Your Unarmed Strikes can deal slashing damage instead of bludgeoning damage, using your Strength modifier as normal.
Sanguine Awareness
As a short ritual of deep focus (which you cannot perform while in combat or incapacitated), you attune your senses to the scent and pulse of vitality around you. For up to 10 minutes (as if concentrating on a spell), you sense the presence, general direction, and rough quantity of living, blood-bearing creatures within 60 feet of you.
- This sense does not reveal their exact location through total cover.
- Creatures lacking blood (such as many Undead, Constructs, or Elementals) cannot be detected by this sense.
- If you enter combat, roll initiative, or make an attack or cast a spell, this focus immediately ends.
You can use this trait a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.
Trace of Undeath
Your body lingers on the threshold between life and undeath. The stillness in your veins leaves you partially numb to the decay of the grave, granting you resistance to necrotic damage.
