Homebrew Alefe Halfling Species Details

Calling themselves the Alefe, the Halflings of Aer’ath are survivors. Even before the Severing, they had limited contact with outsiders. Deeply spiritual and connected to the land, the Severing had a devastating impact on them – many died in agony and madness; those who survived were scarred spiritually and psychically. Their benign shyness turned into a dark paranoia of outsiders. The Severing corrupted the spirit of the Alefe, isolating them even further. To this day, they remain a traumatized people hiding in scattered villages within the labyrinthine forests and jungles of the world. They do not tolerate outsiders. It is a rare and lucky soul to venture into their realms and come out alive.

Many Alefe found sanctuary in the depths of the Bryl Jungle. It is believed that these Alefe have become so savage that even the slave traders of the Lysnatho avoid venturing too deep into their realm. Tales speak of cannibal warriors who are unforgiving of trespassers.

The Alefe chose to escape into the dangerous forests and jungles that provided a degree of security from outsiders.  It is an environment that punishes mistakes woe to the Alefe that finds without the aid of family and clan. There is no such thing as a lone wolf among the halflings and one of the greatest punishments that a clan can mete is exile because it is a death sentence.  In fact, the rare Alefe found wandering the world is likely an exile.

Tall and thin in stature, Alefe stand an average of 3 1/2’ and from a distance they can pass for young adolescent humans. They have pale skin tones. The halflings of Aer'ath have a lifespan of 40 years.

Alefe Halfling Traits

Your halfling character has a number of traits in common with all other halflings.

Alefe Resistance

You have advantage on saving throws against poison.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2.

Age

A halfling reaches adulthood at the age of 20 and generally lives into the middle of his or her second century.

Alignment

Most Alefe are chaotic good.

Size

Halflings average about 3 feet tall and weigh about 40 pounds. Your size is Small.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 25 feet.

Savage Fighter

When making a melee attack against medium or large targets, you add +1 to your attack roll.

Fearless

The Alefe have seen many things and very little holds fear for them. You have advantage on saving throws against being frightened.

Halfling Nimbleness

You can move through the space of any creature that is of a size larger than yours.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Halfling. The Halfling language isn’t secret, but halflings are loath to share it with others. They write very little, so they don’t have a rich body of literature. Their oral tradition, however, is very strong. Almost all halflings speak Common to converse with the people in whose lands they dwell or through which they are traveling.
