Homebrew Basic Droid Species Details

Basic droid's were created for cheap military use. They are built with a similar figure to elves, albeit they are typically much lighter. Basic droid's have cube shaped heads with two small cameras on them. Their bodies are made of steel and look more akin to stick figures than living creatures.   

Quirks

Due to the numerous flaws in their construction, basic droids often acquire an odd personality trait or two. A basic droid player can choose to roll or select a trait from the basic droid Quirks table.

4 You lack any self preservation and go head long into fights without any plans.

6 You don’t know how to filter your feelings and are prone to dramatic emotional outbursts.
7 You don’t understand jokes and you yourself constantly make them.
8 You are obsessed with your appearance, and constantly polish and buff your armor.
9 You are deeply concerned with following proper procedures and protocols.
10 You think there are enemies all around you so you usually have your weapon drawn.

 Basic Droid Names

Basic droids are well, basic, and tend to prefer names based off of random words that are 8 letters or less like bronze or sword.

Basic Droid Names: Bronze, Steel, Copper, Shot, Sword, Blast, Bomb, Dazed, Wonder, Blight, Runner, Jumper, Ranger, Berserker, Sunny, Shady, and more.  

Basic Droid Traits

Your basic droid character has the following traits.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 1.

Age

A basic droid is between 40 to 50 years old. The maximum lifespan of the basic droid remains a mystery; so far, basic droids have shown no signs of deterioration due to age.

Alignment

Almost all basic droids take comfort in order and discipline, tending toward law and neutrality. 

Size

Your size is Medium. Most basic droids stand 6 feet tall. 

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet and your climbing speed of 10 feet.

Droid Mechanism

You were created to have remarkable fortitude, represented by the following benefits.

  • You have immunity to being poisoned, and you have immune to poison damage.
  • You are resistant to thunder damage.
  • You are immune to disease.
  • You don’t need to eat, drink, or breathe.
  • You don’t need to sleep and don’t suffer the effects of exhaustion due to lack of rest, and magic can’t put you to sleep.

Droid Recharge

When you take a long rest, you must spend at least five hours in an inactive, motionless state, rather than sleeping. In this state, you appear inert, but it doesn’t render you unconscious, and you can see and hear as normal.

Droid Armor

Your body has built-in defensive layers, which determines your armor class. You do not gain this benefit while wearing armor but, if you are using a shield, you apply its bonus as normal.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common.

Retreat!

  • Opportunity attacks made on you have disadvantage
  • Opportunity attacks made on you do only half damage (before applying resistances, immunities, etc.).

Recycle

If you fail your death saving throws, you may roll a d20. If you roll a number that is greater than your character level plus 1 nothing happens. However, if you roll a number that is less than or equal to your character level plus one your restored but, your level is reset to 1 and your model type (race) changes to a combat droid. This is a result of the adaptive programming droids have implemented into them due to production errors and program corruption.

Weight

Basic droids have a standard weight of 120 lbs.
