Homebrew Combat Droid Species Details

The creation of combat droid's are a result of the adaptive construction and erratic programming of basic droids. After receiving considerable amounts of damage a basic droid will try to adapt in order to survive and continue its objectives, if successful the basic droid morphs into a combat droid. They are built with a similar figure to humans with generally greater weight than humans. Combat droid's have more rounded, oval shaped heads with three small cameras on them. Their bodies are made of steel and look like skinny humanoids.

Quirks

Due to the numerous flaws in their construction, combat droids often acquire an odd personality trait or two. A combat droid player can choose to roll or select a trait from the combat droid Quirks table.

Combat Droid Traits

Your combat droid character has the following traits.

Ability Score Increase

Your Strength score increases by 2 and one other score of your choosing increases by 2.

Age

A combat droid is between 30 to 45 years old. The maximum lifespan of the combat droid remains a mystery; so far, combat droids have shown no signs of deterioration due to age.

Alignment

Almost all basic droids take comfort in order and discipline, tending toward law and neutrality.

Size

Your size is Medium. Most combat droids stand 6 feet tall just like basic droids.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 35 feet and your climbing speed of 15 feet.

Droid Mechanism

You were created to have remarkable fortitude, represented by the following benefits.

  • You have immunity to being poisoned, and you have immune to poison damage.
  • You are resistant to thunder damage and bludgeoning damage.
  • You are immune to disease.
  • You don’t need to eat, drink, or breathe.
  • You don’t need to sleep and don’t suffer the effects of exhaustion due to lack of rest, and magic can’t put you to sleep.

Droid Recharge

When you take a long rest, you must spend at least five hours in an inactive, motionless state, rather than sleeping. In this state, you appear inert, but it doesn’t render you unconscious, and you can see and hear as normal.

Droid Armor

Your body has built-in defensive layers, which determines your armor class. You do not gain this benefit while wearing armor but, if you are using a shield, you apply its bonus as normal.

Combat Droid Armor. AC, 14 + your Strength or Dexterity modifier

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Dwarvish.

Search and Destroy

Combat droids are far more advanced and skilled than their basic counterparts and specialize on hunting and exterminating specific enemy types. You may select one enemy type, you now have advantage on attack rolls against that enemy type, you are resistant to attacks made by creatures of that type, and you score a critical roll against creatures of that type upon rolling an 18 or higher. At levels 5, 15, and 20 you can select another enemy type.

Recycle

If you fail your death saving throws, you may roll a d20. If you roll a number that is greater than your character level plus 1 nothing happens. However, if you roll a number that is less than or equal to your character level plus one your restored but, your level is reset to 1 and your model type (race) changes to a tactical droid. This is a result of the adaptive programming droids have implemented into them due to production errors and program corruption.

Weight

Combat droids have a standard weight of 150 lbs.

Hunting Skills

Combat Droids have the ability to cast druidic spells as well as ranger spells to facilitate their missions. You may choose a total of 2 cantrips and/or level 3 or lower spells from the druid or ranger spell lists. You can choose another level 3 or lower spell or cantrip from the druid or ranger spell lists at level 4,12,16,18, and 20. These spells do not count towards your known spells, they do not use spell slots, and they are always prepared. You can cast a total of four spells with this trait per short rest.
