Somewhere between Man and Ape

Apelings are an extremely confident and upbeat race. Physically speaking Apelings are quite similar to humans in terms of body build, with the addition of fur, a more monkey-like face and of coarse their tails. Their fur tends to have the same verity of color as human hair, for example, the common browns, blacks, blondes, and reds, though some can be born with more metallic colors such as silver and gold. Apeling tails will usually be between 3 to 5 feet long and are fully capable of being used as an additional limb. Apelings are naturally athletic and born with inquisitive minds, they are quite fond of games, adventuring, and anything that allows them to work with their hands.  

Family mentality

Apelings usually live in small tribal communities they call troops. It is rare to find large cities or entire nations of apelings though they do exist. Within these troops leadership roles tend to be held by elder members of the community, however, decision making for the troop is usually done in a group. Apelings don't have families In the traditional sense, most viewing all of their kin as being apart of their family. This sense of kinship is not limited to other Apelings and can be extended to people of other races who they've grown to trust.

Due to their boastful and energetic nature, Apelings can often be mistaken for being disrespectful and troublesome by high-strung individuals, this is doubly true with high elves.  However due to their strength, honesty, and loyalty they have little trouble finding work in cities and rural towns, just don't expect to see too many Apeling teachers. Apelings get along quite well with most other races, and the friendships between Apelings and Gnomes are famously strong.

Apeling Names

Most apelings can be found in Kara-Tur, far east of Faerun. As such they share very close proximity to the Shou Ethnic group of Humans and borrow a fair bit from their culture, this includes naming traditions. Most Apelings will share similar names to their human neighbors.

Apelings have a slightly longer life span than that of a human, though they tend to age faster reaching adulthood in their mid-teens. Particularly long-lived Apelings can be found to be as old as 150 years old.
