Homebrew Bunnyfolk Species Details

Bunny folk are a small sized humanoid race that resemble large hares or rabbits. Born with large, highly sensitive ears and powerful legs, these creatures are strong and agile despite their small stature. Their nimble bodies are covered in short fur, most commonly found in variations of brown, black or white, depending on where they're from.

Bunnyfolk are largely social creatures within their warrens; however, they are rarely seen outside of their homes. Their warrens, often called clans, are usually comprised of 4-6 family units who live together in series of partially underground tunnels and buildings. Their cities are usually built around the bases of mountains or hills, although there are stories of warrens deep in the desert or the freezing tundra. Since community is such a high priority in bunnyfolk culture, everything is interconnected below ground with even some longer tunnels connecting nearby warrens together. There is a limited number of buildings above ground, with wealthier warrens often having more.

Bunnyfolk are largely recluse from other civilizations, preferring to protect their warrens, and live together away from the bizarre "surface world." As for a system of government, it varies from warren to warren with either the elders of the community forming a council or the people coming together to nominate a singular leader. The larger warrens tend to favor a council where as smaller communities tend to have one clan leader. Masters of staying hidden from unwanted eyes the elders teach the young early how to stay hidden when outside of their underground networks. Regardless of their prioritization on safety, they are a highly energetic and carefree people. Their training in staying hidden has developed a strong habit of being tricksters on other civilizations. Younger Bunnyfolk often taking crops from neighboring farms or playing pranks on wandering caravans which is often chalked up to being the work of fey creatures. They are separated from the "surface" politics and the wars between empires. They choose to live in the present and are deeply in-tuned to the natural world.
