Homebrew Adaptive shardmind Species Details
You are an ever shifting mass of green, red, clear, or blue crystals you can be any color at long as as it is possible for crystals to form in that color. Because you are ever shifting you have no set physical shape so you are able to change your physical appearance at will to that of any other medium creature. You are adaptable to any situation you can change your features to be able to burrow, swim, climb, and fly
Adaptive shardmind Traits
Shard minds have the following racial traits.Ability score modifiers
Your pure intelligence in mind and body. Your intelligence increases by 2
because you can change you appearances you are liked by all. Your charisma increases by 2
Your physical strength is weaker than all others. Your strength goes down by 4
Living construct
You are classified as a living construct which means the following.
you do not need any food or drink to survive.
you do not need to breathe.
you do not sleep but enter a trance like state similar to elves for at least 4 hours you are considered awake and are fully aware of your surroundings.
you can’t be poisoned or put to sleep by any means even magical.
you also have advantage against being charmed.
Adaptive appearance
Because your body is made up of ever moving crystal your appearance is not set in stone. You have the ability to change your physical appearance to that of any medium humanoid this includes anything from a dwarf to a dragonborn and anything in between. You are unable to increase your weight because you can’t add shards to your form although you can decrease it to fit any given form.
Adaptive movement
Do to your ever shifting form you can adapt you body to allow you to burrow, climb, swim, and fly. You can only go 15 feet and do not revert to walking after going that far. You can chose to end your turn in whatever type of movement you ended on this includes flying but you are completely still at the point you chose to stop moving.
you can fly 15 feet in any direction
you can burrow 15 feet in any direction. You can only burrow in materials that have an AC of 10 or lower
you can swim 15 feet in any direction
you can climb 15 feet in any direction
Adaptive combat
Your body can become either armor or weapons at the cost of losing the ability to use normal weapons and armor. You are proficient in these created weapons and armor if you are not so already.
At 1st level these weapons and armor are considered regular and magical.
At 5th level these weapons and armor are considered +1 and are magical.
At 10th level these weapons and armor are considered +2 and are magical.
At 15th level these weapons and armor are considered +3 and are magical.
For weapons you can form 1longsword, 2 short swords, 4 daggers, or 8 darts.
For armor you can form a shield +2 AC, no armor 5 AC, light armor 10 AC, medium armor 15 AC, or heavy armor 20 AC.
Due to your limited amount of crystals that make up your body you can only due the following combinations.
1.any weapon and no armor with a shield.
2.any armor with no weapon with a shield.
3.light armor with any weapon lower than the long sword and a shield.
4.medium armor with any weapon lower than the short swords and a shield.
5.heavy armor with any weapon lower than the daggers and a shield.
Telepathic
You can communicate with any creature as long as it knows any language it doesn’t have to be able to speak the language it must know it though. The creature does not have to be willing.
your telepathy has a range of 120 ft

Posted Apr 11, 2020I think the ability modifiers are fine, but flying and swimming doesn't really make sense. For armor, 20 ac is a lot, even if it heavy. I would also choose between the bonuses to the weapons or the magical weapon type.

Posted Apr 12, 2020Ok i see what you mean about the movement types. They don't seem to make sense and i agree but you can easily discard that racial trait. But i think that the AC and weapon properties are fair because the racial trait says that you are unable to use normal weapons and armour because of this. The trait also limits what weapon you can use with the different armour types. I understand where you are coming from with your criticism especially about the adaptive movement as well as the adaptive combat traits. Please respond with any changes you would make and i will respond by modifying the race or racial traits.
