Homebrew Daylighter Species Details

Daylighters are vampires that were almost killed in combat with holy forces. Charged with massive amounts of radiant energy from a Cleric or Paladin, these abnormally resilient vampires slipped into unconsciousness and were left to burn to ash when day broke. To their surprise, however, the sun harmlessly warmed their cold, grey skin. Fascinated by this newfound freedom in the sun, Daylighers often abandon their dark desires in pursuit of things they didn't have a chance to enjoy in life, whether it be tending to crops as they get used to the new, pleasant feeling of the sun on their back, or, even more peculiarly, becoming adventurers.

Daylighter Traits

Like normal vampires, Daylighters are fast, strong, and eerily charismatic.

Ability Score Increase

Your Strength score increases by 1, and your choice of your Dexterity or Charisma score increases by 2.

Age

While Daylighters are still vampires, their reclaimed humanity (or as it would otherwise be) causes them to age at an incredibly slow pace. They can live for up to 300 years before finally perishing.

Alignment

While it is usually the case that Daylighters regain some semblance of emotion and choose to change their ways, others see their newfound ability as a way to conquer anything they want. This large gap in ideals mean that Daylighters can range from Lawful to Chaotic and anything in between.

Size

Depending on what you were in you original life, you can range from anywhere between 5 to 7 feet tall. Your size is medium

Darkvision

Accustomed to life in the shadows, you can see excellently in the dark. You can see in total darkness as if it were dim light, and dim light as if it were bright light up to 60 feet.

Shapechanger

Despite reclaiming the ability to stand under the sun, you still have access to dark abilities, although they are slightly weakened. You can use your action to transform into a Tiny bat, granting you a flying speed of 30 feet but reducing your walking speed to 5 feet. Due to your weakened power, you cannot change into a mist form as a normal vampire could, and you lose 1d8+2 maximum hit points while transformed, which are restored upon returning to your normal form.

Vampire Charm

Your supernatural charisma allows you make almost anyone do as you desire. You can cast the Charm Person spell once with this trait and regain this ability when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for this trait.

Bloodletting

While it is unnecessary for the survival of a Daylighter, they can still feed on the blood of other creatures. You can use your action to make an attack with your fangs that does 1d4+2 piercing damage. This attack heals you for an amount equal to damage dealt. The damage increase to a 1d6+2 at 5th level, and 1d8+2 at 11th level.

Faint Life

Your heart beats again, though faintly. You can go three days without eating or drinking, and your lungs need very little air, allowing you to hold you breathe for 30 minutes before needing breath again.

Languages

You can read and write Common and another language of your choice
