Homebrew Constellan Species Details

The wolves could be heard on the hunt off in the distance. The snapping and crackling of the campfire filled in the gaps between the howls. The caravan leader stood nearest the flame, lecturing his crew on his planned route for the day ahead. I was only half paying attention. I found something more interesting in the sky above him. A lone star, of a peculiar color and exceptional brightness in the midst of the great Scorpio. It was when that star began to move that it had captured my full attention. At first, it seemed like it was drifting back and forth and all around within it's tiny portion of the sky. But then it became brighter. It began moving faster. 

By now, some of my comrades had also taken notice and watched, mouths agape. The star grew bigger, and bigger, and brighter, and formed a tail that slowly but surely grew longer and longer. I realized that it was headed right for us. I alerted the rest of the crew and they began to take cover. I dove behind a nearby bush, ready for some spectacular collision to shake the ground and send debris flying. But that wouldn't be the case. Instead, I saw a bright flash as the star came upon us and heard a whisper, like something from a fearie's song. Then it was gone. We looked all around to see what had fallen. Then, nestled in a soft shrub near the bush I had hidden in, I found him. A young lad, completely bare, lying there. His face and body all aglow with a soft purple light. He opened his solid violet eyes and looked at me. He spoke to me. I'll never forget what he said, sitting there before me.

Constellan are said to be children of the stars, beings conceived of the cosmos itself. Their personalities are directly influenced by where they were conceived among the stars. Their behaviors are heavily influenced by the attributes of the constellation they were formed from. Their bodies can be described as being half-ethereal, or half material. They can move and phase in ways like that of a ghost, but can be harmed by and interact with things of the physical world. Their very existence appears to be an anomaly. Mages and researchers are dumbfounded by the species, and only the brightest intellectuals can even begin to understand the complex inner workings of their origin. However, there is plenty of time for the study of these creatures to be done, as each has a predicted lifespan of as long as several eons. The most mysterious aspect of their kind is that none had ever existed until the relatively recent past few centuries - and encounters with them are starting to become less and less rare. 

Born of the Stars

Constellans are unlike any other species. They are ghostly, yet tangible. They are mysterious, yet simple. A Constellan can be born in many forms, though the overwhelming majority are humanoid. The most common physicality of a Constellan is a sort of Half-elf/hornless Tiefling, with tall, slender bodies, pointed ears, silky hair, rounded features, and solid-colored eyes, matching their skin color. On feminine Constellans, an elegant, hairless tail is common. Sexuality is of little concern to Constellans themselves as they do not reproduce in any way regular mortals are familiar with. However, there are some Constellans with considerably more masculine or feminine characteristics than others, and do experience attraction toward one another, sometimes even to members of other races. A major distinctive trait that Constellans share is a soft, dim, colored glow that emanates from their skin and is only visible at night. The hue of this glow appears to be linked to the attributes of their parent constellation and can be of any color on the spectrum. During the daylight hours, their skin is faintly tinted in the color of their glow, but the light is not apparently visible. Once night comes around though, the color of their skin becomes deeper, and the glow is visible but faint. While not bright enough to illuminate any area around them, they are easy to spot in the dark while their skin is exposed, like that of a ghost. On occasion, a Constellan will have an appearance of a slightly more cat or lizard-like physicality, such as bearing a flattened nose with a more rounded tail, or having a kind of modest snout with more reptilian characteristics. Rumor has it that a Constellan has been identified wandering the wilds with stunning resemblance to a Tauren. The possibilities seem to be innumerable. 

Constellan bodies tend to be more material than ethereal, but it seems as though they can control this ratio to some small degree, being able to become slightly more or slightly less solid at will. One could pass a hand or other object through the arm of a Constellan without any remarkable visible consequences to the arm, for example. Although doing so would require a measure of force and would cause the Constellan a considerable amount of harm. This trait prevents them from performing actions like that of a spirit, such as walking through walls or completely ignoring certain physical events aimed at them. More mature Constellans do have the ability to hover and glide through the air as if it were the same as walking on the ground. They do need to eat, drink, breathe, and rest, but much less than a typical mortal being. 

Constellan Personality

Constellans are born of all different constellations, both known and unknown. Each Constellan's glow color and behaviors are directly linked to the qualities of their origin stars. For example, one born of Scorpio would be a passionate and brave individual, who can have distrusting and even violent tendencies. They would love having a true friend and hate dishonesty. Their colored glow would likely be of a red or orange hue. The range of potential aspects of their personalities are as broad as the color spectrum and all Constellans exhibit their character in a more dramatic way than a regular mortal. Back to the Scorpio example, this Constellan may be more on edge regarding strangers than would be considered normal, or would have even stronger feelings about something they cared for than would members of other races. At times this can make social interaction with them slightly awkward, but many are able to integrate into society with little difficulty, besides the fact that they are generally viewed with skepticism due to their origins. Constellans may be drawn to certain roles or positions within a group or society as a result of their personal tendencies. Leo	Dramatic, passionate, and emotional. Often times they exhibit self-centered behaviors.
Virgo	Logical, practical, and systematic. They can be perfectionists and strive for self-improvement.
Sagittarius	Space-oriented, intellectual, and spiritual. They like to seek out adventure and opportunities for growth.
Capricorn	Focused, determined, and rule-oriented. Often they will become less strict as they mature.
Aquarius	Sympathetic, protective, and change-driven. Their habits and hobbies are often unusual or off-beat with society.
Pisces	Wise, creative, and innovative. They have learned the lessons of life and love to dream of what could be.

Constellan Names

Constellans are born with the knowledge of their true name, however it is always known to them in the Celestial language. Constellans sometimes take on nicknames either for themselves or dubbed upon them by comrades.

Your Wisdom score is increased by 2. Your Strength is decreased by 1. Your Charisma is increased by 1. 

Lifespan of Ages

Constellans are born into what are considered to be young adult bodies. Constellans who look to be around the age of 18, 19, or 20 could actually have been born yesterday. Constellans are able to walk, talk, and manage themselves at birth, however their only language at such a point is Celestial and they must be taught cultural customs and how to survive in the world on their own. The first Constellans were found and raised by ancient mage researchers, and once they had grown and developed, went out to find newly born Constellans to raise. No Constellan has passed on from old age yet, and the oldest around is several centuries in age. It is predicted that Constellans have a lifespan of as long as several eons. 

Alignment

Constellans are born with the innocence like that of any other child. Since most are raised by other Constellans, the first of which were raised by mage researchers, the overwhelming majority tend to lean towards neutral or chaotic good with a strong desire to pursue knowledge. There is the occasional exception where a Constellan is found and raised by outsiders, such as a commoner from a humble village or even a clan of bandits, resulting in a different alignment. There are rumors of a Constellan who was found by a cult of demon worshipers and now serves as the master of the collective, forcing them to do it's own bidding.

Size

Your size is Medium. Constellans are usually slightly taller than the average human, ranging from 5' 5" to 6' 10". Most have a slender build, but more masculine Constellans can have a slightly stockier appearance, as well as those with reptilian resemblances. Their half-ethereal bodies reduce their body mass, making the average weight range from 65 to 125 lbs, even for the most stocky and tall Constellans. 

Speed and Gliding

Your base walking speed is 30 feet. At higher levels, you gain the ability to glide. 

Constellan Biology

• You have advantage on saving throws against being poisoned, and you have resistance to poison and mental damage.
• You are resistant to diseases.
• You need to eat and drink half of what regular mortals consider necessary, and can hold your breath for twice as long as average mortals. You gain the benefits of a long rest with a 4 hour nap. You do sleep, and always dream. Your dreams are always spectacular, and sometimes beyond even your understanding.
• It takes you twice as long to reach higher levels of exhaustion due to lack of rest, and you have advantage on saving throws against being put to sleep by magical or physical means. 

Languages

You can likely speak, read, and write Common. You have an innate understanding of how to speak Celestial. You may know another language as well, depending on your background and age.
