Homebrew Buncha Racoons Inna Cloak Species Details

Raccoons are clever. THESE clever raccoons have decided that the way to get a bigger slice of the delicious pie is to pretend to be one of the "big" races by piling up into a cloak.

A Buncha Raccoons Inna Cloak tend to pick a race to pretend to be, such as Halfling or Gnome. They then pile themselves into some shapeless clothing and commit themselves to pretending to be a member of that race as best they can. While these raccoons will know the language of whatever race they are pretending to be, their actual speaking skills may be somewhat lacking. They tend to stick to a few chirped words or phrases when they must talk. Fully committed to their act, under no circumstances will they ever admit they are raccoons, even when the evidence is overwhelming. They will always attempt to change the subject, evade the question, and deny it vehemently.

A Buncha Raccoons Inna Cloak tend toward less honest professions and more chaotic alignments.

Buncha Racoons Inna Cloak Traits

Dexterous, wily, and perhaps a little bit silly.

Ability Score Increase

Buncha Raccoons Inna Cloak get +2 to their Dexterity Ability Score.

Dark Vision 60'

See in dim light as though it were bright light out to 60 feet, and total darkness as though it were dim light out to 60 feet. In darkness, vision is in black and white (no color).

Furious Escape

Due to the less cohesive nature of the Buncha Raccoons Inna Cloak, restraint is extraordinarily difficult. They have Advantage on any attempts to escape from a grab or other form of physical restraint.

Speak with Undesirable Creatures

You are able to communicate with a variety of urban scavenger animals generally found in trash-filled alleyways, sewers, and in the shadows of run-down buildings. This includes, but is not necessarily limited to, mice, rats, squirrels, pigeons, cats, dogs, roaches, and, of course, raccoons. The DM may modify this list as they see fit, adding or removing particular animals due to improved conditions for certain creatures or additional unnatural scavengers (maybe a town has an infestation of rust monsters or minmoths).

Squad Up

In certain situations, being not one but several creatures can have advantages,

You may take the help action to give yourself advantage on your next skill check provided it is not strength or constitution-based. This involves conferring amongst yourselves in the cloak or working together with all your little paws to perform some task involving fine manipulation.

During tasks which take time and multiple individuals could conceivably get more done, reduce time for the task by 1/4. This is only effective where you could conceivably be out of your cloak with no one seeing you for the time needed.

Scatter

Whenever you need to fit through a small space, you can treat yourself as a tiny creature for purposes of moving or squeezing.

Many Minds

"I must obey!" "Shhh! Shut up, Carl!"

Because you are several raccoons in a disguise, mind-affecting spells are generally only affecting one of you at a time. By rapidly switching places and restraining/supporting the affected individual, you can continue to act more or less as normal, though less effectively.

Whenever a spell would control your actions, you may choose to take a temporary -2 to all ability scores to act as though it had no effect. In addition, all rolls will be at disadvantage until the effect wears off. This action can be taken multiple times and the effect stacks. If an ability score would ever drop to 3 or below or this would cause the character to go below 1 hp, this action is not available. Ability scores return to normal when the mind-affecting magic would expire. This only applies to spells that affect an individual, such as charm person or hold person.

Wobbly

Because you lack a single skeletal structure, you are less stable than a regular person in certain circumstances.

You are able to carry and lift only 1/2 of the weight for your strength.

You have disadvantage on checks resisting the Shove attack action.

Natural Attacks

While they may be loathe to use them under most circumstances, A Buncha Raccoons Inna Cloak are armed with a number of sharp claws. These claws deal 1d4+Dex slashing damage. As a bonus action, you may attack with your off-claw.

Nimble Survivor

A Buncha Raccoons Inna Cloak make excellent scavengers, finding food easily. They gain proficiency in Survival.

Climbing and navigating obstacles is often necessary to survival of raccoons in an urban setting. As such, A Buncha Raccoons Inna Cloak gain proficiency in Athletics.

Despite an individual raccoon's stealthy nature, piling up into a cloak negates that a bit, so it evens out. They do NOT gain proficiency in stealth or acrobatics automatically.

Garbage-Chomper's Constitution

The Buncha Raccoons Inna Cloak have developed an immunity to many types of illness and poison from their horrible, horrible diet. As such, they receive Advantage on any saving throws versus poison or disease.
