Homebrew Cthalka Species Details
While an Aasimar is a humanoid creature with celestial blood in their veins and a Tiefling is the infernal pendant of that, a Cthalka is a humanoid being with the essence of an aberration of the Far Realm inside of them. These aberrations can range from Mind Flayers, Beholders and Aboleths to even The Great Old Ones themselves. When Cthalka are born, they are already conscious about the world around them and can create coherent thought processes. They are fast learners, but sometimes seem emotionally cold and distant, as if their minds were somewhere far away, beyond what other mortals can comprehend. Because of their alien ancestry, Cthalka don't have to sleep. When they choose to sleep however, they are often haunted by horrifying nightmares of other worlds, eldritch beasts, deep sea ruins, etc.
Unfortunately, Cthalka are usually shunned and are often discarded or killed soon after birth. That happens because of their appearance most of the time. Cthalka often adopt visual aspects of their eldritch ancestors, like tentacles, a third eye (or more), sharp and pointy fangs, an elongated head or much more. Should they survive being abandoned, they will most likely start to loath society and humanoid civilization. They then often become Warlocks and cult leaders, striving to get revenge on the humanoids that left them to die. After all, they are only partially alien. They do experience emotions quite similar to other people, because of their humanoid ancestry. All in all, Cthalka are gifted and cursed at the same time.
