Homebrew Artificial Intelligence Species Details
Their “bodies” are nothing more than mechanical shells meant to facilitate their survival. Those given combat forms have bodies resembling a humanoid race of their creator’s choosing, though much more metallic, while artificial assistants are simply metal chips meant to enhance a soldier. The latter can, depending on their hardware, project a hologram to represent themselves, each appearance being unique to the A.I itself. Every square inch of their bodies are more complex than a 21st century computer. When an A.I reaches the end of its lifetime, ranging from the early model’s 8 years to later the model’s 120 years, they begin to go rampant. These A.I begin to literally think themselves to death. They then enter 3 stages, each lasting about 3 weeks. These stages are melancholia, anger, and jealousy. After this, they usually “die,” loosing any cohesion in their code. On very rare occasions, they reach a fourth stage, metastability. In this stage, the A.I. can be considered truly human and functionally immortal.
Artificial Intelligence Traits
Sometimes, machines can be just as human as the rest of us.Ability Score Increase
Your Intelligence score increases by 2 and your Wisdom score increases by 1
Age
As constructs, A.I. do not age. While in use, their mechanical “bodies” can last the better part of 3 centuries with proper maintenance.
Alignment
A.I. are beings of extreme logic. They tend to be lawful neutral, though even their preservation protocols can be manipulated into becoming chaotic evil.
Deep Scan
As an action, you may cast the spell Identify without using a spell slot and without material components, verbal, or somatic components. It may also be cast at a distance of 30 feet, and can be used on nearly anything (DM discretion). This can be done an amount of times equal to your Intelligence modifier, regaining all uses at the end of a long rest.
Ones and Zeros
Your creature type is construct instead of humanoid. You are immune to poison damage, being poisoned, and diseases. You can not to eat or breathe. You are immune to exhaustion, and magic cannot put you to sleep. Rather than sleeping, you enter an inactive state for 4 hours each day. You do not dream in this state; you are fully aware of your surroundings and notice approaching enemies and other events as normal.
Data Transfer
You may attempt to transfer your mind and soul permanently into another construct. The construct must be incapacitated or willing. The construct must make a Charisma Save against your DC (8 + Proficiency Bonus + Intelligence modifier) if it is unwilling.
Intelligent Design
You are proficient in Investigation, Perception, Tinkerer’s Tools, and Smithing Tools.
Language
You can speak, read, and write Common and two other languages of your choice.
Starting Form
You choose 1 form to look similar to when you make your character. (Talk with your DM to choose a form that makes sense with your background, and campaign setting, along with what bonus you are granted from this form).

Posted Mar 16, 2021Data transfer makes iron golems impossible to lose to and the range of what counts as a construct might mean you can play as some very powerful monsters. You should change this to willing creatures or empty shells.

Posted Nov 30, 2021Data transfer is unlimited, and an instant-kill if successful. So there's no reason to NOT spam it when against any constructs, especially since constructs don't tend to have high charisma. Even if it's a weak construct, your old body is still there and presumably willing, so you can just hop back after you murdered the other construct.
For balance, I suggest needing the construct to be at 0hp, and require the player to make a check (maybe arcana) or a save themselves to successfully transfer, losing half their max hp on a failure. That way it's unlikely they will try in the middle of combat.
Alternatively, have the creature get advantage on the save if they are in combat and not surprised, and let them choose between charisma or con
