Homebrew Draconian shifter Species Details
Draconian shifters are a race of shapeshifters that can appear as any kind of animal, but the animal that it transforms into gains a dragon like appearance. The creatures it transforms into can vary from medium to Huge. A large or small animal that this shifter transforms into will be resized to fit the dragon like appearance. These shifters cannot turn into dragons, sadly. If the draconian shifter transforms into a human, than the result would be a Dragonborn. The abilities and attacks of the dragon shifter will vary due to the animal it has transformed into, and that is free space for you (or the gm) to make up those abilities and attacks. If the draconian shifter is carrying any weapons when they shift, the weapons will be transformed into appendages that can be used as weapons.
At each level, you can choose one new animal to be able to shift into. At lvl 1, you are able to choose four, one having to be a human form. When you shift, your max hp and current hp stay the same, but your armour class may be increased because of a transformation’s natural armour. (Note- the armour that you are currently wearing would be shifted onto the animal that you had transformed into, so your armour class would stay the same if the animal didn’t have any natural armour or an exoskeleton.)
The downside of this race is that you aren’t able to accompany it with a class. The race is the class.
——setup——
Your basic sheet with the rolled stats would be your Dragonborn sheet. It would be the one to have a longbow and a short sword, the one form that would have the chain mail armour and all of your supplies and proficiencies on it. The transformations would be on separate sheets, with fixed stats, with 14 for every stat.
For all the transformations, you can use a basic sheet or a pet sheet for them, and make a spell sheet into an actions sheet, changing the spell slots into attack and utility slots. For an online version on this website, you can use a monster creator to make them, but you can’t create the Dragonborn without using a class, so you have to do the Dragonborn on paper. The setting up does take a lot of time, but it’s fun to build it up and actually use it if the game master allows it.
Draconian shifter Traits
At each level, you can choose one new animal to be able to shift into. At lvl 1, you are able to choose three.transmutationative traits
The forms that you can transform into with the draconian shifter are partly animal, partly dragon. The racial traits that you obtain are the ones that the base animal (the one that isn’t the dragon) would normally have. For example, You can use darkvision for a bat transformation, or flying for an eagle transformation. You can make them up or use ones that are already inside of the d and d database. You can only use four racial traits per transformation, though.
