Homebrew Watchers Species Details

The small, intimidating figure wasn't at all intimidating, wearing a small bow tie made out of silk, and a bright smile. Whisking around the room, it's horns skimmed the air while it's eye looked down upon a single bard's performance, enthralled by their skill in music. None of it's own kind was around it, instead there were unfamiliar races of all shapes and sizes.

Yet, with a few inspirational words and strums of a Lute, it felt right at home in the large, bustling tavern.

Watches are Small, Ghostly figures of the past. Many are born from the sheer will of Determined souls who refused to die, and thus their soul escaped hell to pursue a new life without memories or past experiences. They live in lively places, hiding themselves in the corners of taverns to listen to music, in bright and cheerful gnome villages, or with the pixie folk in the Fae Wild. Watchers love everything that the world has to offer, viewing their existence and rebirth as a miracle.

Watchers Traits

Watchers have a Single Magic eye, a Weak Form, but the Strongest of Wills.

Ghostly Form

As a mostly Spectral Creature, Watcher's look extremely odd. They're usually no shorter than seven inches, but have a strange shape. A third of their body is taken up by their round, circular head. The rest is taken up by what appears to be a silk-rag, connected to the head with a slim neck, but it is actually their skin. They lack any hair or normal features a creature would have (with no nose in sight), however they have one large eye and a small mouth often curled into a smile. Atop their heads are usually little horns of all shapes and colors, occasionally they have just one, three, or even four, but most commonly two.

Their personality shines through what little they can wear. Whether it be a bow or a top hat, they always put a small (often magical) spin on it, and cannot say no to bright colors. Often they find the tiniest gemstones and make it their bow's centerpiece, or find a color-changing ribbon to tie around their horn. If it's bright and colorful, it'll likely be worn by them.

Cheerful, Cursory, and Frail

Being from the Afterlife without memories leaves Watchers loving to observe the growing and changing world around them. Little do they care of their past lives, but instead their future. Often they travel place to place, wanting to see the world from every angle. Daily they learn new things about the world, every fact equally as fascinating as the next. They do have an eternity to experience the world, and many wish to spend it happy.

Many Watcher's are explorers at heart, but first and foremost, all are pranksters that love to tell jokes and try to bring a smile to people's faces. There's an odd way smiles charm them, and they'll never forget a smiling face! Often they try to incorporate bold, foolish, or funny mannerisms openly in their daily routines, in the hopes they can make someone laugh or smile. They search the world for new experiences and joys, often mistaking some bad things as joyful due to inexperience. Even if they cannot experience drinking or eating food to the extent that others can, they revel in watching others enjoy it. Due to this nature, they often become adventurers to see the world, meet new people, and enjoy new experiences.

Though they are not held back by a physical body, they are held back by their frailness. Being so small, anything out there could crush them in an instant. They are aware of their frailness, and use whatever mischievous tricks they can think of to duck out of harm's way. Sometimes, they even think a life threatening situation is a good prank. Until they get hurt, that is.

Magical Lens

The first thing a person notices about a Watcher is their large eye which darts all about. A watcher's eye color determines a lot of their personality, and the vibrancy often gives insight to their current emotional state. Often the more vibrant a color, the more intense they feel.

Those with red eyes often have Strong wills, with every fiber in their form being confident (and likely stubborn). Orange eyes show Energetic Generosity and Playfulness, but are often very Absent-minded. Sensible and Committed, those with yellow eyes love to help others (but can be blinded by their emotions). Those of green are Calm, Intellectual, and Powerful (Usually overthinking situations). Blue eyes indicate a Loyal and Idealistic, but get lost in their thoughts. Finally, those with purple eyes have the brightest personalities, being Charismatic and Bold, but have a weakness for money.

However, no matter how friendly they act, their eye is the key to their powers and abilities. While their eye can easily grow back within a few days, it holds their ability to do basic magic. They will avoid their eye being damaged or popped, without caring for the cost on others.

Numerous Names

Watchers, not being born, and thus not having anyone to name them, often lets the world do the job. Frequently they ask the first stranger they meet to give them a name. The first person they meet is likely to give them a simple name. Or they remember the first thing they see in the world, and name themselves after it. Occasionally some wait a long time to decide their name, and name themselves after their hobby, passion, or favorite thing about the world. A lot, however, keep many names. Usually they pick one name, but some have tens or even hundreds of names they refer to themselves as.
While they themselves lack genders, they usually pick one based off of their personality and who they identify with.

Male Names: Lockey, Babel, Gizen, Thed, Zmeu, Inky, Bones, Crow, Beach, Lute

Female Names: Fie, Button, Aina, Blinky, Chior, Boo, Bellu, Candy, Esther, Harp

Out of this World

Watchers are often quite the sight, and they see the world in the same way. Since they have no past, but a bright future, they quickly pick up languages and skills.

From the moment their souls left the nine hells, the only thing they retained from their past self was their personality and common. However, in this brand new world, they could learn any new skill or language. Often they drift to the more exotic and curious on hobbies, most are practical enough to learn a new language first.
