Homebrew Wavekin Species Details
Scourges! They attack in a frenzy that isn't of this world. I've watched brave men piss themselves in fear at the sight of a tattooed bloody Wavekin charging with black eyes rolled back and teeth bared. Those things scare bloody sharks!
Beliefs of the Wavekin
The Wavekin closely guard their beliefs believing that only the strong can follow their ways. They believe only in the strength of tooth and arm and how it lends itself to the tribe. The natural order dictates much of their way of life, for they are of the sea and command it as its apex species, at least in this plane. They are acutely aware of their position in an evolving food chain and will fight to remain on top with a survivors fervour in every action. They build strong, they teach strong and they die strong as is the right of a true predator. However they value the worth of every creature by its merit if they can prove their strength
Life in the Abyss
The Wavekin raise their young in the traditional ways of their people. Not for them is tradition shrouded in mystery but pragmatic teachings that train and enhance their people. They do not waste young life needlessly but will send those of age to hunt when of age. Watched by a Warrior of the tribe these younglings with rip and tear through their foes and bring home trophies and proof of their kill. Those who fell a powerful bast or colossal creature that may feed the tribe are venerated on their return. those who fail and require assistance are not shamed however, they are heralded for their bravery in the attempt and used to build the homes of the Wavekin. Every tooth needs a jaw, and every jaw is powered by a heart. It is the attempt, the courage and frenzy that matters. Those who return are celebrated and granted the right to name themselves.
Only those who turn from the fight are shunned and driven out as The Nameless, forever forbidden from reaping the rewards of the efforts of the tribe.
The Birth of a Wavekin
The birth of a new generation is a source of celebration for the tribe though outsiders are not permitted to witness the hatching of younglings. Younglings hatch mewling and hungry in pods of multiple purses and are allowed to fight their way out of the hatching pools. Those who emerge are venerated as the new whilst those who don't are cherished for giving strength to the new blood of the tribe. Their appearance as they emerge leads to their tribal name such as Blood Fist, Saw Fin, Rag Tooth or Grey Back.
A Fight in the Deep
The wavekin are aware of their origin as being descendant from creatures from the Elemental Plane of Water. Spoken histories keep the warning fresh in their minds of the danger posed by those from the Eternal Sea and none more so than the Kraken. The Wavekin have made their home not in a location of safety but in one of vigilance having situated their villages around a chasm in the sea bed leading to a rip between the planes. They stand and die in the abyss to prevent the encroach of something more dangerous than they are. They watch eternally for the Kraken, a race of colossal intelligent tentacled monstrosities that command the water as if it was their own flesh. Their is no graver and more venerated feat than to fight such a creature and survive.
