Homebrew Draelf Species Details
Wanderers bereft of history and home, ever seeking that which was lost.
Draelves have been a part of the world for millennia and yet their own history is now lost even to them. Some cataclysmic event obliterated whatever nations they had and scattered their people to the winds. In the process, all known archives of their existence were also erased as was their racial memory. Even the oldest among them do not know of the races true origins, though it is accepted that they are of fey descent. Scholars can only trace their history back to around 800 or so years ago and those among the Draelves themselves can only go back a few decades more than that. As a result, many a young Draelf has taken up the adventuring life to try and find any clues or leads that would help uncover their lost past.
Draelves are inherently magical, a key indicator of their probable fey origins. Most notable is their eyes. Draelf eyes are made of pure magic and give of a soft glow. Seeing as many races are often put off by this blatantly otherworldly feature, the Draelves usually hide their eyes behind blindfolds of dark cloth (often a brown or black, but other colors are not unheard of. A woman named Juphrin favored purple) which causes no apparent hindrance to their ability to see. The blindfolds, depending on the style, also have the added benefit of covering the tips of their ears, which are slightly pointed. So garbed, they can easily pass themselves off as human, and frequently do, if only for convenience.
Draelves are between 5' 6" and 6' tall and can weigh between 130 and 190 lbs. Hair and skin colors are similar to humans.
Having no nation of their own, Draelves are often found living among the civilized races, most often human, usually as tradesmen of some sort. Outside of civilization, they are frequently encountered as wandering vagabonds or in nomadic groups. These travellers are often bards or entertainment troupes, adventuring scholars, or itinerant tradesmen.
