Homebrew Vampire - Nosferatu Vampiris Species Details

In the reckonings of most worlds, humans are the youngest of the common races, late to arrive on the world scene and short-lived in comparison to dwarves, elves, and dragons. Perhaps it is because of their shorter lives that they strive to achieve as much as they can in the years they are given. Or maybe they feel they have something to prove to the elder races. Whatever drives them, humans are the innovators, the achievers, and the pioneers of the worlds--  Unless they die.

Then it's a sloughing trip through Shadowfell to make it back, and when they do, there's no assurance that things will be to them in the world as they once were. Nor that the Lady Raven would allow them to escape scot-free.

A creature of the night born either of embrace of another Nosferatu, or an elder created from escaping the clutches of death by unholy or otherwise design, leading them to take a monstrous form in their new un-life.

This is a ‘More balanced’ take on a Vampire race for DND.

Vampire - Nosferatu Vampiris Traits

With unholy un-life however, there are of course perks and general disappointments.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and one extra language of your choice.

Ability Score Increase

Your ability scores each increase by 1.

Age

As a vampire, you become semi-immortal. You age no further than when you died and-or when you were turned. Whether or not you can be aged with magic is between you and your DM. Otherwise, magic will not age you either.

Alignment

Morally ambiguous, however, they can range all over the board. Most particularly however Neutral or Chaotic alignments best suit a vampire's lifestyle. When you have to kill to keep yourself alive, it can take a toll on your moral compass.

Size

Humans vary widely in height and build, from barely 5 feet to well over 6 feet tall. Regardless of your position in that range, your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 40 feet. Vampires are quick buggers.

Darkvision

As a creature of the night, You can see in the dark up to 120 ft,

Vampiric Virility

You are Immune to Disease and have Poison Resistance.

So Touchy

As a vampire, your primary senses are increased in sensitivity excluding taste, which is extremely dulled except when tasting blood. This means your enhanced senses are: Smell, vision, Hearing, Touch, Vestibular, and Proprioception. +2 bonus to passive perception.

Also, with your vampiric senses, you are more sensitive to the sounds of someone's heartbeat, and blood nearby. You can hear someone's or something's heartbeat from 10 ft away, and can smell blood that is in contact with open air from 20 ft. Neither is possible through solid objects such as walls. Additionally, you can tell if it is animal, monstrous, or humanoid blood from tasting it. However, an investigation check is necessary to determine any specific details about what type.

Sunlight Sensitivity

While in sunlight, the Vampire has disadvantage on Attack rolls, as well as on Wisdom(Perception) checks that rely on sight. So Touchy is also nullified.

The Power of Christ Compels You!

As a Vampire, you are weak to radiant damage.

Unholy Recovery

When taking a short rest and using hit dice to regain health, you add your proficiency modifier to each die result.

Magical Detection

You have Advantage on Arcana checks due to your supernatural detection.

The Want

The burning desire that builds in the body of the vampire, desiring for the satiating blood flowing through living flesh. A vampire must feed on a living creature that has blood inside of it- Noted to avoid mishaps with Warforged or mechanical things or other undead. The vampire must feed at least once every 72 hours (3 days) or you will incur Bloodlust. After an additional 96 hours (4 days), The Hunger will set in. Depending on the vampire's constitution, when it loses enough to hit zero it will go comatose in A Deathly Hollow, and cannot be revived until fed.

{{Note: You may use hours or days depending on how particular your DM is willing to be about things. A day is considered Midnight to Midnight, or from the time you fed to that same time the next day/24 hours later.}}

Bloodlust: The vampire's sanity begins to slip as they try and ignore the craving for hunger. You have a disadvantage on Intelligence and charisma checks during this state. You have an advantage on Strength and dexterity checks. (Optional Flavor feature: Fang control is more difficult, and requires a WIS save at the sight- or scent- of blood.)

Hunger: The vampire's mind cracks beneath the ravenous desire for blood and it will be unable to resist her need to feed. Disadvantages and Advantages from bloodlust carry over during this state, however, every day that passes the Vampire will lose one point in their Constitution, Making it more and more frail. Fang retraction becomes impossible. They have a tendency to become more and more violent at this stage. Hunger only lasts until you lose all of your Constitution, which you start to lose on the dawn of coming day after hunger begins.

A Deathly Hollow: After reaching 0 Constitution the vampire will be unconscious. The vampire will remain in this state until fed the blood of a medium-sized creature or killed in this inactive state. At which point the clock will reset.

Lookin' Sharp

As a vampire, you now have a set of two retractable and extendable fangs. In addition to this, your regular teeth and fingernails have grown in sharpness. If this is in length or simply edged sharper is up to you the player. Unarmed attacks when using your hands become slashing damage, but do not do any more or less damage than a traditional unarmed strike

These new fangs allow you to make a Bite attack that does piercing damage. If used on another player of equal level, you can use it to drain all their hit die to sate your Want, without inflicting damage. If used on an NPC, you have to kill them (or drain half of their health depending on your dungeon master and if the NPC has a health stat.) in order to sate your Want. Additionally, if used on a player or NPC without killing them, it will inflict one level of exhaustion as well. If used on an enemy during combat, you may roll a bite attack adding your strength modifier plus your proficiency to the attack roll. The damage to be rolled being 1d4+STR.

Both NPC's and enemies must be at least medium-sized creatures for Want to be fulfilled. If Small, it only fulfils 2 days of the vampire's Want, and must be killed. Tiny size only provides 1 day.
