Homebrew Demon Species Details

 

Fear, Anger, and on rare occasions, praise: demons always face these with every waking moment of their existence. Demons are dangerous and sometimes are said to be a sign of the end of the world. Most people hate them and only secret acolytes worship them.

Demonic Bloodline

Demons have horns and talons for hands. They´re able to survive against different elements, depending on their bloodline.

Self-Reliant and Suspicious

People try to stay as far away from demons as possible. Demons traditionally try to stay as hidden as possible out of fear of being attacked by other races. They usually find work in the underground, mostly with crime bosses and other criminal organizations.

 

 

Demon Names

Demon names fall into three broad categories, similar to tieflings. Demons born into another culture typically have names reflective of that culture. Some have names derived from the Infernal language, passed down through generations, that reflect their fiendish heritage. And some younger demons, striving to find a place in the world, adopt a name that signifies a virtue or other concept and then try to embody that concept. For some, the chosen name is a noble quest. For others, it’s a grim destiny.

Male Infernal Names: Akmenos, Amnon, Barakas, Damakos, Ekemon, Iados, Kairon, Leucis, Melech, Mordai, Morthos, Pelaios, Skamos, Therai

Female Infernal Names: Akta, Anakis, Bryseis, Criella, Damaia, Ea, Kallista, Lerissa, Makaria, Nemeia, Orianna, Phelaia, Rieta

“Virtue” Names: Art, Carrion, Chant, Creed, Despair, Excellence, Fear, Glory, Hope, Ideal, Music, Nowhere, Open, Poetry, Quest, Random, Reverence, Sorrow, Temerity, Torment, Weary

MUTUAL MISTRUST

People have always feared demons, because of the ancient demon lords. Some see them as a blight on the world that need to be exterminated, others fear them as the signs of the apocalypse. Demons also stay away from other races as much as possible, out of fear of being butchered, maimed, and murdered from their fear of them.

 

Demon Traits

Demons have near similar racial traits with tieflings.

Ability Score Increase

Your Charisma score increases by 2, and your Strength and Dexterity Score increases by 1.

Age

Demons mature at the same rate as humans but live a few years longer.

Alignment

Demons might not have an innate tendency toward evil, but many of them end up there. Evil or not, an independent nature inclines many demons toward a chaotic alignment.

Size

Demons are about the same size and build as humans. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

Thanks to your infernal heritage, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Hellish Resistance

You have resistance to fire damage.

Infernal Legacy

You know the thaumaturgy cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the hellish rebuke spell as a 2nd-level spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the darkness spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
