Homebrew Counselor Species Details
A Squire's Esquire
Everything that shapes the Feywild is shaped in return. The Counselors, after centuries of study and debate, therefore assumed their current day form: short and gawky little human-like forms with exaggerated noses and eyes. Hair, skin, eye and even nail color can vary widely from one Barrister Brownie to the next, but the colors always remain muted and dull. Their skin hangs loosely from their skin, giving them an elderly appearance that is not helped by their tendency to wear stuffy, overly formal clothes.
A Counselor's mind is shaped by their task as well. They tend to withhold information they deem unnecessary to give to others, speaking in complex jargon that can confuse and infuriate, and above all, they are skeptical to the point of ludicrousness. Although helpful in a fey court of law, (where words hold magic, contracts are traps and illusions are your everyday business hazard) for other races --especially races that aren't fey-- their misdirection can become infuriating.
Every now and then a summons will be sent to a shoemaker for milk saucers not being paid to fairy workers. A river nymph needs to file a restraining order against a troll ex-boyfriend. Petty things. But as a Seelie Fey, Counselors commonly use their legalese for the good of humans and fairies: finding holes in a contract where a farmer signed away his firstborn, mediating land disputes between lumberjacks and dryads, and prosecuting evil stepmothers at a fairy godmother's request are all just a day in the life for these magical attorneys.
Counselor Traits
Counselor character has the following racial traits.Ability Score Increase
Your Wisdom score is increased by 2 and your Intelligence score increased by 1.
Age
Fey birth and aging is a mystery.
Alignment
Counselors are always lawful. They tend toward neutrality, but can vary.
Size
Counselors are skinnier and shorter than a human, standing between 4 and 5 feet and weighing 90 pounds on average. Your size is small.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 25 feet. Your base flight speed is 5.
Brownie Busywork
Magic can't put you to sleep. Instead of sleeping, a Counseler performs a clerical task, such as filing taxes, transcribing copies of documents or writing reports for 4 hours a day. After resting this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.
Fairy Dust
As a fey, you produce Fairy Dust that gives you the ability to fly (albeit at slower speeds than your winged cousins, pixies and sprites) as long as you "think happy thoughts". This is performed in a way similar to maintaining a concentration spell. Once per long rest, you can spread your dust to all sentient creatures in a 5 foot radius around you. Those creatures gain a flight speed of 5 and can fly by "thinking happy thoughts" for 10 minutes.
Diplomatic Immunity
You have advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Legally Blind
You can see in dim light within 90 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. Your vision continues to function in full color even in magical darkness, however, you find it difficult to see beyond that range. You have disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) rolls and attack rolls beyond 90 feet away from you.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common, Sylvan, and Draconic.
