Homebrew Anubite Species Details

"They rose up from the sands, blades flashing in the falling light. They cut their way through our flanks like a sickle through wheat. Wickedly agile, Anubites serve well as scouts and flankers. Created by Anubis during his rise and freed by his demise, they wander arid regions, searching for purpose. Some find it in wealth, others in religion. Viciously loyal to those they deem worthy, they make a fantastic ally - or a fearsome foe.

Origins

During Anubis' bid for power in the Western Deserts, he realized he required an army. So he forged one, made in his own image. The perfect warrior - tall, lithe, and ferocious. Their agility was unmatched on the battlefield, capable of weaving their way through a foe as easily as a fish through water. Theirs was a dance of death, and they were true masters of their craft. It was only when a group of heroes decided to put an end to Anubis' conquest by banishing him back to the Underworld that they began to show signs of independent thought. Though they retained their propensity for combat and an inner aggressiveness, rarely found outside of Orcs, some began to normalize and integrate in society. Wherever they went, they were met with suspicion.

Even though they were not trusted, they were sought after as mercenaries and bodyguards, as their prowess in combat was legendary. Their loyalty, once attained, was unquestionable, and they had no qualms about dying for their liege. A perfect soldier.

Anubites do not differentiate between Male and Female, save for biological necessity and reproduction. As such, Males and Females share a name pool.

Age

Anubites reach physical maturity around two years of age, and live to be around eighty years.

Allignment

Given their penchant for following orders, most Anubites find themselves on either the Lawful or Neutral end of the spectrum. Due to their violent nature, most Anubites are either Evil-aligned or Neutral, although Good-aligned Anubites do exist.

Size

Most Anubites stand anywhere from 7 to 9 feet tall, and weigh approximately 200 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your standard walking speed is 35 feet, due to your digitigrade limbs. Additionally, you may ignore difficult terrain due to sand/desert conditions.

Darkvision

Accustomed to hunting at night, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Canine Senses

Anubites are accustomed to hunting in almost total darkness, having to rely on all their senses. You are proficient in the Perception skill, and you gain advantage on Perception checks regarding smell and hearing.

Hound's Tooth

Your teeth are natural weapons, which you can attack with as an action, or as a bonus action if you are grappling. If you hit, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier.

Leap of the Jackal

As an Anubite, you can easily leap 10 feet vertically, or twice that distance horizontally.
