Homebrew Cait Sith Species Details
The Cait Sith are a race of feline humanoids that are infamous for their wit and agility. They make great thieves and acrobats due to their feline heritage allowing them to be quick and light on their feet, but also make fearsome and agile warriors in their own right. They have an inborn magic allowing them to shift into domestic cats and are able to see through illusions with greater ease than most but due to this, they are unable to wield other magics. Due to their shifting ability, they are rarely seen by outsiders in their true form as they often wander human settlements as cats to learn of events outside their forest homes. They are human-like in appearance the differences being their bright slitted eyes and their feline ears and tails. Their hair and fur vary greatly in colour and pattern though they are often brightly coloured.
Cait Sith Traits
Their heritage grants them excellent night vision, balance and reflexes as well as sharp hearing, sense of smell, and claws. They are naturally light-footed making them very stealthy.Darkvision
Your feline heritage grants your superior vision in dark and dim conditions. In dim light, you can see up to 60ft as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can only see in shades of grey in darkness.
Feline Instincts
You can detect some objects or creatures within 15 feet by sense of smell and sound. If what you are detecting is upwind, the range increases to 30 feet; if downwind, it drops to 5 feet. Stronger scents and sounds can be detected from greater distances at the DM’s discretion. When you detect an opponent, their exact location is not revealed—only their presence somewhere within range. You're eyes and ears are also sensitive, allowing you to more easily spot things out of the ordinary.
Your feline instincts and senses allow you to perceive the world differently letting you spot illusions much easier (+2 to saving throws vs Illusions; advantage of perception and insight rolls.)
Feline Agility
The Cait Sith are natural acrobats. Because Cait Sith have a feline heritage, they have an advantage on Dexterity checks.
Natural Stealth
The Cait Sith have a natural tendency towards stealth and are natural rogues and thieves. You gain proficiency in the Stealth skill.
Cat Form
As a Bonus Action, you may transform into your cat form and take the dodge action. When you take the Dodge action, you focus entirely on avoiding attacks. Until the start of your next turn, any Attack roll made against you has disadvantage if you can see the attacker, and you make Dexterity Saving Throws with advantage. You lose this benefit if you are Incapacitated (as explained in Conditions ) or if your speed drops to 0.
Cait Scratch
Instead of using a weapon to make a melee weapon attack, you can use your sharp claws to scratch or pierce the opponent.
On a hit, a Cait Scratch deals slashing damage equal to 1 + your Dexterity modifier. You are proficient with your unarmed strikes.
