Homebrew Davi Species Details

Davi are a mysterious lot, a strange mix of elf and Tiefling blood with no discernible origin or history attached to them. With fiendish blood diluted by elvish heritage, magical talent is a given for them, making their image seemingly unstable enough to be forgettable if you only met one once. The rare bouts of history you read about the Davi are scary stories, wives tales, and other spooky tellings of how an even a single Davi is dangerous and seek to harm. With unknown origins, the Davi are seen as an ancient boogeyman, often accompanied by rumours and harsh life for parent and child.  Mysterious and rare, Davi are a cross between an elf and a Tiefling often described either as a “monster” or as “the most beautiful being I’ve ever seen.” With their unknown origins, theories usually range wildly from "a creation from immoral meddling with the devil," to "the first sentient beings to walk on the Material Plane."

Indescribable Beauty

With their unique look, Davi would have stuck out like a sore thumb, had it not been for their strong ties to magic. Graceful features augmented just enough by an eyebrow or a gently curved point on their ears, most elves are jealous of such feat of beauty and uniqueness. They have a slightly broader range than humans in height, going well below 5 feet too far over 6 feet, also weighing about the same as an elf. Like Tieflings, they have horns but unlike Tieflings, their horns stray towards smaller sizes with a dull curve rather than a point.

Their tails tend towards 3 feet in length, swishing and wagging when one is in deep thought. On the luck of the draw of genetics, a Davi can have extremely sharp canines. Davi coloration encompasses the normal human range and also includes skin in shades of copper, red, and blue, hair of green or blue, and eyes can go black, red, white, silver, or gold with no visible sclera or pupil. Davi can grow sparse facial hair and have body hair as thick as a human’s.

Hidden History

The true dwelling of Davi are unknown, even to this day, but that may be intentional. Most Davi appear out of the woods and rougher parts of human society, usually misconstrued as the runts of the Tiefling race. The vast world seems to have washed clean any mention of good Davi exploits, misattributing them to being some sort of malicious and unnatural being. Davi seeking fame and fortune find nothing more than frustration as no one would believe them, however, Davi seeking solitude and to be forgotten, find it all too easy. In the few instances Davi appear in history that is not slander, it raises more questions than answers about why they seem to slip between the cracks of history.

Right Hand

The strange mix of legacies causes Davi to mature mentally as quickly as humans but with the physical longevity of elves. As such, they have either precious little or inexhaustible patience when they finally mature, having waited 100 years to be considered an adult. Davi tend to work well with others; in fact, their name comes from the elvish word meaning “right hand.”

They are fantastic at inspiring the masses and leaders, but most prefer to enable others to be their best instead of taking up the limelight for themselves. Davi enjoy pointing out other’s qualities, good or bad. Very few dwell on what happens to their companions when they part ways, preferring to remember them for what they did together.

Ability Score Increase

Your Charisma score increases by 2, and your Intelligence score increases by 1.

Age

Like elves, Davi reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans, with an understanding of adulthood goes beyond physical growth to encompass worldly experience. A Davi typically claims adulthood around the age of 100 and can live to be over 1000 years old.

Alignment

Davi share the chaotic bent of their fey and infernal heritage; they value both personal freedom and creative expression, demonstrating neither love of leaders nor desire for followers. They chafe at rules, resent others' demands, and sometimes prove unreliable, or at least unpredictable. While their elven heritage draws them towards good, their infernal blood lessens this pull, and most are neutral in alignment.

Size

Davi range from under 5 to over 6 feet tall. Your size is Medium.

Darkvision

 Thanks to your fey and infernal heritage, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common, Elvish and Infernal. Elvish is fluid, with subtle intonations and intricate grammar. Elven literature is rich and varied, and their songs and poems are famous among other races. Many bards learn their language so they can add Elvish ballads to their repertoires.

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

You gain proficiency in two skills of your choice.

Infernal Legacy

Legacy of Minauros. 

You know the mage hand cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the Tenser's floating disk spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a short or long rest. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the arcane lock spell once with this trait, requiring no material component, and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest.
