Homebrew Super Soldier Species Details
Since half-orcs are so strong and tough but easier to subdue and reason with than full-blooded orcs, a warlord began kidnapping them as children and then brainwashing them, turning them into fully compliant soldiers without conscience, compassion, mercy, or morals. The half-orcs were also augmented using magic, making them even larger, stronger, faster, and tougher than they already were naturally, as well as being trained in both armed and unarmed combat from the moment they could walk, throw a punch, and swing a weapon, all to turn them into the most efficient and effective killing machines they could be.
Apathetic Warriors
Because of their brainwashing and military training, Super Soldiers are willing to kill anyone or anything that gets in their way or that they’re ordered to, including even women, children, and babies. However, despite that, they are not totally devoid of emotions and some of them are known to actually somehow awaken their conscience and become protectors of the innocent, though they are often captured, imprisoned, tortured, and killed, sometimes by former comrades.
Magical Augmentation
Because of the magic used to make them bigger, stronger, and tougher, Super Soldiers are noticeably larger than most other half-orcs, being over eight or even nine feet tall and weighing several hundred pounds. Their skin is typically green or gray, though a few of them have brown or black skin. Also, their race’s eyes are typically catlike with yellow or orange irises, and their hair is always black, though old age will make it become gray or white. Also, they are heavily muscled to the point where their musculature seems to be almost exaggerated. They also have fang-like teeth and tusks on their bottom jaw, as well as pointed ears similar to an elf’s, plus their hides are so thick and durable that they seem to be like leather armor.
Super Soldier Traits
Powerfully built with thick hides, claw-like nails, and long tusks, Super Soldiers are strong fighters built to take a hit and keep on swinging, hitting back even harder.Ability Score Improvement
They have STR +4, CON +2, and WIS -1.
Age
Because of their magically enhanced bodies, they reach adulthood at the same age that other orcs and half-orcs do, but start aging more slowly once they reach 20 years old, aging twice as slow as humans. They also have an extended lifespan, often living to at least 100 years if not older.
Alignment
Because of their orc heritage they tend toward a more chaotic alignment, though their brainwashing makes them completely loyal and compliant to their superiors and willing to obey any order, thus giving a lawful inclination, though it is hard to determine whether they are good, evil, or neutral.
Size
The average half-orc Super Soldier is between 8-9 ft tall and weight between 300-450 lbs, so their race’s size is Large.
Speed
They can move up to 45 ft.
Darkvision
Because of their orc blood they can see well in dim light as well as the dark, and the magic used to augment them makes their vision in the dark even better, with them able to see up to 120 ft in darkness as if it were dim light and in dim light as if it were bright light.
Menacing
Because of their large, heavily muscled bodies, long tusks, sharp nails, and dozens of scars, they are naturally proficient at being intimidating.
Relentless Endurance
When a Super Soldier is heavily wounded and is reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, they can instead drop to 1 hit point and keep going, but can only do this once per long rest.
Savage Attacks
When they score critical hits, Super Soldiers can roll one of the weapon’s damage dice an additional time and add the number rolled to the extra damage dealt by the critical hit.
Powerful Build
Thanks to their large size and strong musculature, Super Soldiers can carry more than they should be able to given their size, allowing them to have a carrying capacity one size larger than they themselves are.
Natural Athlete
Because of their excess musculature, they are naturally proficient at athletics.
Trained Grace
Thanks to the Super Soldiers’ extensive training, they have natural proficiency in acrobatics.
Thick Hide
Since Super Soldiers have incredibly thick hides even for half-orcs, their hides give them Natural Armor, thus increasing their AC by 10 + DEX modifier + CON modifier.
Precise Strikes
Super Soldiers score critical hits on attack rolls of 19 and 20, as well as dealing extra damage equal to their attack’s maximum damage.
Military Training
Thanks to their superior training in combat, Super Soldiers can deal more damage than most other races when fighting in unarmed or armed, melee or ranged combat, as well as the fact that they know to properly use their weapons and armor to maximize their attack and defense, plus they can use their training and reflexes to make one additional attack on their turn.
They receive a +5 bonus to Melee Attacks, Ranged Attacks, Unarmed Attacks, Melee Weapon Attacks, Ranged Weapon Attacks, and One-Handed Melee Attacks, as well as another +5 bonus, this time to Armored Armor Class and Dual Wield Armor Class, and finally +1 Extra Attacks.
