Homebrew Cursed Loaf Species Details

Once an ordinary slice of bread. After being exposed to magic spores for extended periods of time, these warriors of wheat gained both sentience and magic. The most basic ability gained by these whole grain heroes is the ability to carry themselves using Mage Hand. Many variations of these grain guardians exist, depending on the type of bread they formed from.

Cursed Loaf Traits

A floating slice of bread formed from magic. After gaining both sentience and magic, these beings levitate by carrying themselves with Mage Hand.

Age

As slices of bread, Cursed Loaves do not age. The magic used to transport the cores of their beings also preserves their bodies.

Languages

As a floating slice of bread, you can speak Common, Deep Speech, and one other language. You speak telepathically, and can either project your voice normally or directly to a person's mind.

Alignment

Cursed Loaves are varied and do not steer toward any particular alignment.

Size

As a literal slice of bread, your size is Tiny.

Speed

As a floating slice of bread, you do not walk. Instead, you may levitate or fly at a speed of 30 ft.

Ability Score

As required to be a magic slice of bread, you are geared more toward being a mage than a fighter. You gain +2 Wisdom, +2 Intelligence, +2 Charisma, -1 Constitution, -1 Strength, and -1 Dexterity..

Bread Magic

As a piece of bread, you need some way to transport. Cursed Loaves innately know the spells Mage Hand and Minor Illusion. Mage Hand is used to carry around the loaves at all times, and Minor Illusion is commonly used to blend in with all sorts of races.

Mage Hand Adept

As a slice of magic bread, you must carry yourself with Mage Hand to move. You may have 4 Mage Hands active at all times. These Mage Hands compose your "body." The parts can be seen in the table below.

Mage Hand 1

Head

Mage Hand 2

Mage Hand 3

Mage Hand 4

Legs

If at least one Mage Hand is connected to the bread, the bread may move. Mage Hands may change shape into simple objects, but will always appear translucent. Detached Mage Hands can hold weapons, but not attack with them, however attached Mage Hands may wield weapons normally. If no Mage Hands are attached, you simply become a stationary slice of magic bread until you call back a Mage Hand. The size of the full Mage Hand body is Medium. The Mage Hands are mysteriously unaffected by the Antimagic Field spell, and they protect the Cursed Loaf from it as well.

Bread Disguise

You may keep up a Minor Illusion on your Mage Hand body at all times. While this illusion is up, you may move into any attached part of your body. If a part of your body is attacked without you in it, the attack misses, and the illusion is dropped. Minor Illusion may only be reapplied outside of battle. Bread Disguise only works when all Mage Hands are attached to the main body.

Scatter Tactics

At level 3 you learn to scatter your hands and use them for confusion. As an action, you may scatter your Mage Hands in a 30 ft. radius from your central body. You may instantly warp between the scattered hands, but they cannot move unless you reform them back into your full body. As an action, you may also throw your main body from one hand to another without scattering them.
