Homebrew Snailfolk Species Details

Snailfolk live serenely in a variety of terrains. A pod of snailfolk move slowly from place to place, feeding and conversing with others, sheltered in their shells at night. They tend to enjoy meeting new people and exploring new places with open-hearted curiosity.

Sometimes they find mammalian creatures hard to understand. In particular, they are usually unconcerned with traditional concepts of wealth - they can eat almost anything organic, and their shells are the most comfortable home they could want. They are aware others value gold and trinkets, so they will carry some amount of accumulated wealth with them. In particular, snailfolk may make crude weapons from wood and stone in nature, but are unable to forge iron and steel. Snailfolk have poor vision and hearing, but an excellent sense of smell - they find spice merchants and perfumers enchanting and will freely spend their coin for new smells.

At times known only to themselves, members of a pod may mate and lay eggs in a secluded place. Then they depart. Some time later, if the gods are kind, a new pod of snailfolk will emerge and mature together, eventually undertaking their own journey to new places.

Snailfolk are close to nature, and are often protected by strong clerics and druids to make up for their lack of swords and shields.

Snailfolk can consume any organic matter for food, though they must still be careful of foodborne illnesses- which, to a Snailfolk, is all illnesses.
