Homebrew Torivor Species Details
Brought to this world centuries ago by the powerful wizard Zokar, the torivors (also referred to as "lurkers" or "darklings") were used as his assassins and spies until his rival, Eldrin, killed him. Since Zokar's death, the torivors have wandered aimlessly throughout the world, terrifying all who encounter them. Unbeknownst to most, the torivors can be controlled using a substance called myrkstone. Pieces of their original home, the bearer of a myrkstone shard can use it to force a torivor to serve them in one of two ways. The first is as a spy, tracking a targeted individual over land and sea, for weeks, months, even years if necessary. The second is as an assassin, whereupon the torivor takes up two blades of an unknown metal alloy, and kills their target. The death of a target breaks the hold myrkstone has over them, allowing them to finally return to their world. For the truth is, they do not truly wish to kill anyone. All they desire is to return to their world. Sending out a torivor, especially to kill, takes an enormous toll upon the sender, and the very idea of sending out multiple torivors as assassins is utterly preposterous, certain to kill any who attempt it. Known to few, and feared by all besides, the torivors are an unknown entity. The few who have survived close encounters with them are forever changed, muttering of dark nightmares and unbearable cold until their death
