Homebrew Werebeaver Species Details

What in gods' names happened here...

Werebeavers are a rare form of lycanthropy.  A rather bored Lich by the the name of Xain Blain decided to take a century off of reaping souls and took up an interest in Bio-transmutations.  Blain was interested in melding man and beast and wanted to see how many variations could be created.  Lycanthropes were a perfect starting point, wolf, bear, tigers, etc., Blain rounded up a number of them and conducted many tests to figure out their physiology.  Having figured out the origin of the Lycanthrope curse strain in the blood, Blain started concentrating it into a set of potions.  One potion was ingested by the humanoid race, the other ingested by the beast species.  Countless combinations were made over the century.  Many failures happened, especially among the larger genus, giraffes didn't have enough room to grow and was quite messy.  But the beaver combination was a notable success.  Although they were not as glamorous as the wereunicorns, werebeavers held a soft spot in Blain's decrepit heart.  The werebeaver was the only one that was aloud outside the laboratory, and some of them found a way to escape.  Eventually a group of adventurers happened upon Blain's Astral laboratory, horrified by the abominations they destroyed everything, never allowing Blain's work to be replicated.

Meek and Obese

Werebeavers are a portly bunch.  In humanoid form they are fat and soft around the edges.  The have a tendency to breath heavily when walking up stairs or running for any distance.  I water however they are natural swimmers, in fact it's almost elegant to watch them swim, given their obese size.  In hybrid form the werebeaver has massive front teeth that can bite through almost anything, and the bite is the main way how the lycanthropy is transmitted.  A werebeaver can also transform into a normal beaver, although they are slightly bigger and have the same stats as the humanoid, along with the other normal stats of beavers.

Beaver Community

Much like wereboars and wererats, werebeavers will form communities in remote areas away from civilization, usually near rivers.  werebeavers that leave the community for adventuring usually return within a year because they get winded easily and end up slowing the party down.  If a werebeaver manages to be a competent adventurer they will settle a new colony with the riches they earn.

Werebeaver Names

Werebeavers have the same name as their former selves, but in a community of other werebeavers they will usually give nicknames to each other.

Common Nicknames:  Daggett, Norbert, Leave it, Pepe le Chew, Knob Gobbler, Hairyson Fjord

Werebeavers have an unnatural urge to build anything and everything.  On a full moon the Werebeaver that has not embrased the change must venture into the night and build new structures on existing homes.  If the werebeaver is not in an area that has existing structures they will find the nearest river and build a dam or bridge.  If in a desert the werebeaver builds a very elaborate sand castle.
