Homebrew Coldwater Tortle Species Details
What many tortles consider a simple life, others might call a life of adventure. Tortles are born near sandy coastlines, but as soon as they're able to walk on two legs, they become nomad survivalists eager to explore the wilderness, experience its many wonders, put their skills to the test, and make new acquaintances.
Tortles that inhabit cooler climes grow to be much smaller than their tropical cousins. They share many of the same characteristics, such as a hard outer shell, but are generally more fearful creatures due to the increased perils of the colder waters that make up their homelands, including more species of sharks and other predators. Despite this, they have survived against the odds, and seem to be quite lucky in general, and can use their diminutive stature to hide where others would still be visible.
Coldwater Tortle Traits
Natural Armour, Lucky, Naturally StealthyNatural Armour
Due to your shell and the shape of your body, you are ill-suited to wearing armour. Your shell provides ample protection, however; it gives you a base AC of 17 (your Dexterity modifier doesn't affect this number). You gain no benefit from wearing armour, but if you are using a shield, you can apply the shield's bonus as normal.
Naturally Stealthy
You can attempt to hide even when you are obscured only by a creature that is at least one size larger than you.
Lucky
When you roll a 1 on the d20 for an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, you can reroll the die and must use the new roll.
