Homebrew Vorcian Elf Species Details

Outcasts From the World

The Vorcians were a powerful elven family that lived for thousands of years. For millennia, they held control in the Draconic Capital, until the Rot came after the Draconic Wars, and they were forced to leave. After this, other powerful families, including the Raven Empire and the Blackened Empire, attacked them and all but killed them. They were driven into the Crystal Caves, a massive network of caverns stretching for miles under a vast desert. They had to adapt there, and became accustomed to minimal amounts of water and little food. They made weapons from the blue, electrically charged crystals there, which they used mostly for hunting. 

The dryness of the sandstone and crystal caves, despite being well-lit, drove the elven Vorcians slightly mad. They craved the forests and plains, and eventually started crafting their own magic from the magic that they had once had from the land around them, and the dragons that roamed it. They gained strength and agility, and began using magic over creatures to help them spy and hunt.

Powerful Warriors

The Vorcians, over the years, have become especially powerful warriors. Although most people don't even know of their existence, they are likely the most skilled swordsmen and fighters ever to live. They are naturally born leaders, and have a good talent for convincing others to join them. Also, they are good at finding magical sources. Almost all Vorcians wield weapons made of the blue crystals in their caves, which have similar lightning powers to those of the blue dragon that roamed the caverns.

Vorcian Elf Names

While Vorcian elves typically have the usual elven names, there are some unspoken rules and traditions. For example, an elf with higher class will have a long name---usually 8 to 10 letters---while a lower-class elf might have only a 3 or 4-lettered name.

Vorcian Elf Traits

As a Vorcian elf, you have the following traits.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2 and your Strength and Intelligence scores increase by 1.

Age

Vorcian elves live to about the same age as normal elves, but sometimes 1 to 10 years older. They reach maturity at about age 80 and usually live to abut 700. 

Alignment

Vorcian elves are flexible people, but tend to lean towards chaotic rather than lawful. They can be good, neutral, or evil.

Size

Vorcian elves range from under 5 to over 6 feet tall and have slender builds. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Vorcian elves are very quick, to avoid the dangerous creatures below ground and easily navigate the caves. Your base walking speed is 40,

Darkvision

Vorcian elves are very accustomed to the darker tunnels of the deeper caves. You have 60 feet of darkvision.

Keen Senses

You have proficiency in the Perception skill.

Fire Skin

Your body is entirely immune to fire damage, though your clothes and gear are not. Vorcian elves born in the Crystal Caves are also resistant to lightning damage.

Agility and Grace

You are proficient in acrobatics, and have advantage on any check will it. Additionally, your steps are totally silent. Sound-based perception checks against you will ave disadvantage if you don't try to make noise. 

Dragon's Fire

After years of evolving, Vorcian elves have regained their minor control over fire, as well as developing a good sense for magical sources. You can cast the burning hands and detect magic spells at will.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common, Elvish, and Draconic. Elvish is fluid, with subtle intonations and intricate grammar, while Draconic is stronger, with more emphasis and pressure.
