Homebrew Alomri Species Details

One fine day in the twistwood thickets, Molle Cotter was bored. There hadn't been an adventure in weeks. And so she left her band o' jackanapes behind and went in search of excitement. Molle found it, comin' 'cross a stream with a long, narrow bridge. Before she could start to cross along, a tall, thin stranger approached the other bank, lookin' to come the other way round. Ever-smile on her lips, Molle refused to give way, and neither would the stranger yield.*
"I'll show you right, the Hangshire way!" Molle threatened, knocking an arrow to shoot. The stranger then called Molle Cotter a coward, bold as brass.
"Sure arm'd with a long bow you stand to shoot my breast, dandy Alomri," said he, "while I 'ave naught but this staff in my hand."
Molle lowered her bow with a tip of her cap and went quick to carve out a staff of her own. And you can bet your wiskers, little kits, at her tail being entire fluffed with mirth the whole time. Soon then, Molle and the stranger did battled on each other. Long and hard it was, too, stick to stick and blow to blow. Both were bloody wounded soon, but at long last, the stranger knocked Molle into the brook, leaving our lovely outlaw "floating away with the tide".*
Thus, with her clear laughter ringin' round the dell, did Molle Cotter conceded the bridge, and happily win herself a friend.

~The Ballad of Molle Cotter and her Outlaws o' Green

Hailing from rocky islands thick with heath and weald, the affable Alomri are a race of foxlike humanoids driven by a need to defend the weak, champion freedom, and fight injustice with a wink and a smile. Good scouts and bleeding hearts, the gallant Alomri rarely turn down a call to adventure, or a challenge to their honor.
Their innate nature regularly pushes them to do something daring, something exciting, something stupid, or something brave.

Friends to the Friendless

In their homeland, alomri protect the native woods and peoples from the slow creep of corruption and oppression, excited to right the wrongs done to their neighbors and friends. They live in small communities of two or three large families, craft goods, and are generally peaceful, beyond the occasional duel or tavern brawl. Not all alomri are content with such a small perspective on the world, however.

After all, Molle Cotter did not just stop fighting injustice when her own village was liberated. Those alomri who wish to walk in her footsteps travel far and wide, seeking to end oppression, greed, and cruelty in all its forms. Those who survive their travels, return home in their elder years to share the tales of grand adventures.

In time, the legends and songs of heroism throughout the world become part of the folklore of the alomri to inspire the next generation.

Red Fur and Silver Hearts

Standing only 4 and a half feet tall, alomri often appear taller, exuding a boldness and daring comparable to any of the longer races. They are inclined to be lithe but keenly muscular, weighing between 90 and 125 pounds. Alomri skin is covered in thick, soft fur ranging from a rich red and ginger to shades of brown, black, or white. Alomri men often cultivate the fur on their chins and wax the fur tips of their jaws into extravagant curls, while some women will dust portions of their fur with colored powders. They have golden-brown, yellow, green or pale blue eyes. Dexterous hands help alomri weavers maintain a strong homespun tradition, and the people favor brightly dyed tunics and caps worn over utilitarian shirts and sturdy trousers.

In many respects, alomri practicality ends with their clothing. Unsurprisingly for a people preoccupied with adventure, heroism, and overthrowing tyrants, the alomri can be excitable and unflappably sportive. They love to banter and have made an art of playful jibes and witty insults. They have a reputation for brash actions too, and are quick to a fight with little need for provocation- though always with a smile, laugh, and ready hand shake after tempers have cooled.

Rebels for a Cause

The need to overthrow oppressors is carved into the heart of every alomri. In times long past, they were a subjugated people, ruled over and ground beneath the boots of invaders from other lands. Molle Cotter's rebellion began a movement, a return to the woodlands, where their overlords could not follow. There, the common folk forged a nation, and took back their homes and their freedom.

What followed were centuries of crusade. Not content with securing alomri freedom, Molle's' jolly band, and those who followed after, sought to wage war on all who would impose their will on the weak. Their adventures exposed them to a world more wondrous and dangerous than they could have imagined, and they were fighting for peoples they didn't know- and who didn't always ask to be saved.

Still, Young Alomri crave the heroism, chivalry, and high adventure of the old stories, and many a Todd or Redlee has left home to find a cause to champion. Alomri are often paladins, fighters, and charming rogues or rangers. Full spellcasters are rare, but there are more than a few folktales of alomri bards and minstrels outwitting a dragon or corrupt baron.
