Homebrew Ashen Species Details
Their ancestors were humans, exiled from the Material Planes into Shadowfell. After several hundred years later some of the Ashen made pact with Sirrion, the god of fire, to travel back to the Material Planes. Sirrion agreed to guide back some of the Ashen, in exchange for their souls, after that he, Sirrion, teared out the souls of Ashen from their bodies , then ignited them, and planted it back into their bodies. This process was excruciatingly painful, and as a result nearly half of the Ashen died, who agreed to leave Shadowfell, and even the remaining ones seemed to be really different. Physically they were marked by the fire (they had wounds, mostly burn marks), their hair become dark gray, and their eyes became dark blue. The bigger change however were made with their souls, it remained in flames, and could never leave the Material Planes ever again. Even after death an Ashens soul burns like a candle, slowly consuming the remains of the body, then continuing to burn forever and ever, marking the place where an Ashen died.
Ashen Traits
Your Ashen character has abilities part and parcel of their nature.Burning Soul
Because the soul of an Ashen is much closer linked with its body then a Humans, the Ashen body becomes heat resistant, to overcome the pain caused buy a burning soul.
Fiery Will
You have advantage on wisdom saving throws, because of your great willpower. Some would say you are stubborn like a donkey.
Ability Score increase
You are charismatic, and not simple-minded.
Age
Because of their ever burning soul, Ashens tend to age more slowly than normal Humans, they can live for 200-250 years in general, however they Mature bit slower also. An Ashen is considered fully matured at the age of 30. After death their soul remains at the place where they died, it is a small light (like a candle light) and can not be extinguished.
Alignment
Ashens love to devote themselves to a cause, that will determine their alignment, they are rarely natural, in most of the cases either good or evil. They usually serve gods, in the hopes, that their soul can reach an afterlife, this only happens in rare cases when an Ashen does a great service for a god. Others will sell their soul because it can not leave the Material Planes, this bargain however has other severe consequences.
Size
The Ashen range between 5 and 6 feet, tall and have slender builds. Their size is medium. Players can easily decide their size it is 5 feet + 1d8 inch.
Speed
Your walking speed is 30, just like for most of the humanoid races.
Lesser Darkvision
You have darkvision for up to 30 feet. In the dark your eyes glow with a faint blue light. This ability is the result of your soul being much closer linked to your body and the Material Planes in general.
