Homebrew Vulkrar Species Details

The Vulkrar are flightless vulture humanoids. They are cowardly scavengers by nature, yet, when united, can become a prideful and powerful people.

Inspired by the Vulkrar from a website called Connors Campaigns.

Vulkrar Behaviors and Encounters:

At random times, you may find a random Vulkrar wandering the lands. Normally, this is very unlikely because there aren’t many Vulkrar wandering in the first place, but also because if there were, he or she would likely try his or her best to avoid you. If you were to speak with this Vulkrar, it would be very distant and untrusting, even if you were to have a Vulkrar in your group. Though, sometimes, a very nationalistic Vulkrar could be traveling the world to find other Vulkrar to send them to one of the Great Vulkrar Citadels. They are usually sent out by the Citadel, or go out on their own accord, to share the wonder of the united Vulkrar people.

Other times, you might just find a small village of Vulkrar. The odds of this village being socially stable are slim, however, the introduction of outsiders and non-Vulkrar would raise many eyebrows.

You see, it is not common for a Vulkrar do not trust another Vulkrar, but they trust random humans, dwarves, elves, etc. even less. That is precisely the reason a Vulkrar Citadel exists. A Vulkrar Citadel is very similar to a Dwarven Hold in the mountains. It is normally a large fortress within or partially connected to a mountain. They serve as beacons of pride for the Vulkrar people as they display to the world that an un-trusting scavenger people can come together and, not only trust and befriend one and other, but also work to become another great civilization to be respected.

Culture:

A very important part of Vulkrar culture is their attitude towards their flying cousins. If you were find yourself in a great Vulkrar Citadel, then the odds of you seeing a random vulture flying around is extremely likely. The average Vulkrar treats vultures with with one of two attitudes, one of reverence, considering it a holy family member to protect, or simply as a beloved pet.

When a random Group of adventurers trod into a village of Vulkrar or into one of their Citadels, it is not uncommon to be seen with disgust and contempt. If you were to have a Vulkrar in your group, the expression of the surrounding Vulkrar would vary from Vulkrar to Vulkrar. Some of the more nationalistic Vulkrar would consider the outsiders as friends of a fellow member of their people. Others, of the nationalistic type, would still have a grimace to the outsider, considering the Vulkrar party member naive or a fool to bring them to a Vulkrar only realm. Many would just be confused or not really care considering a Vulkrar is among them, so not a lot of thought is put into this small phenomenon.

An important aspect of Vulkrar culture is their deep understanding of fear and intimidation, as cowardly creatures. Due to this, many Vulkrar take on the practice of intimidation. Some seeing it as taking the strength from their predators.

Religion:

There are two Gods in the Vulture pantheon.

The Great Vulture in the Sky: Representing truth and honesty, and representing the unison of all Vulture kind. This God, represents a "tool" of sorts for the use of Vulkrar kind, as it brings hope for all Vulture kind.

The Grim Vulkrar of Death: This is their God of Death and Fear. As with many species, the representation of the Grim Reaper is a tall, black robed skeleton. Though there is debate among Vulkrar kind about the appearance of the Grim Vulkrar; whether the bones are clean white or covered in a constant state of decay with putrid flesh repeatedly falling off. It is not a debate many partake in.
