Homebrew Dracori Species Details
"How ironic. They hate being confused with the dragonborn when they prefer to keep to their little secret civilization. Perhaps if they were courageous enough to show their scaled faces to the rest of the world, they could possibly make a name for themselves."
-Lord Faceless, on dracori
Outcast misfits overshadowed by the dragonborn, dracori are a seclusive and mysterious race, with ties to both the gods of dragonkind and the magic of Pyxalis the Dreamer himself.
Kin To Dragonborn
Dracori look like dragons standing erect in humanoid form, though they lack wings. Unlike their dragonborn counterparts, dracori also have hair ranging in every style and color, both natural and unnatural. The first dracori had scale colors in only that of the chromatic and metallic dragons, but over the centuries of reproduction and exposure to the Dreamer's magic, their scale colors and patterns developed into vibrant and dramatic patterns in every color, design and shade. Their scales, too, can vary in countless ways, whether they overlap in big plates, create a uniform and fine pattern, or even become as soft and smooth as skin. They are tall and have varied builds, often standing close to 8 feet tall and weighing 550 pounds or more. Their hands are a mixture of humanlike fingers and strong, talonlike claws, with three fingers and a thumb on each hand and digitigrade legs and feet. The magic of the Dreamstone suffuses each and every dracori, occasionally developing into a magical talent of some kind, be it sorcery, wizardry, or even divinity. Legends were once told of dracori who possessed even greater magical power, from hypnotic eyes to elemental bodies, to jaws that can dislocate to swallow creatures whole. But those are only legends...
...right?
Secluded Guardians
All dracori had the same original purpose, a motive behind their creation: to guard the Dreamstone. This humongous crystal that thrums with the magic of the Dreamer was sought by many who heard of its immense power. In order to protect itself from these intruders, the Dreamstone first lured a group of dragonborn to its island abode, then transformed them into the race that would be known as the dracori. As a result, each and every dracori has a natural instinct to protect the Dreamstone, no matter how faint it may be, and very few ever leave the island where they reside.
A life of seclusion from the rest of the world has tainted the perceptions of civilization in the dracori. The most drastic example of this is their view of other humanoids. Dracori have the somewhat gruesome idea that other creatures, no matter how sentient, are just food. For example, a dracori talking to a human could suddenly turn and bite their arm off because they're hungry. This horrifying idea stems, like many other facets of their civilization, from their urge to keep the Dreamstone safe. Another example would be their ideas of family and romance. Dracori are all loosely blood-related to each other, so it isn't thought of as disgusting or unusual for dracori of the same parentage to interbreed with one another, provided that they are around the same age. However, having such a relationship with a humanoid of a different species is thought of to be strange, unnatural, or considered as some kind of fetish.
Despite all this, there are some dracori that strive to overcome these tainted tenements and make a new name for themselves and their kind amongst the people of the mainland. They endure slander, shunning, and even violence in their tireless effort to treat others as equals and to bond with the other races as friends. And when a dracori makes a friend, it will protect that friend until the day they die.
Dracori Names
Dracori names are as varied as their scale pattern, ranging from names in Draconic to that of other races, or even after things in nature. As a result, they can have pretty much any name they want, within gender alignment. For example, naming a male dracori "Rose" is less common than a female with the same name. They all belong to the same tribe, and as such they never use a family name, merely description of where they are in relation to their family; for example, "Mehen's daughter" or "Birch's brother".

You can use your action to exhale destructive energy. Your elemental ancestry determines the size, shape, and damage type of the exhalation. When you use your breath weapon, each creature in the area of the exhalation must make a saving throw, the type of which is determined by your elemental ancestry. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 2d6 damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The damage increases to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 16th level. After you use your breath weapon, you can’t use it again until you complete a short or long rest.
