Homebrew Awakened Fox Species Details

Foxes are small to medium-sized, omnivorous mammals belonging to several genera of the family Canidae. Foxes have a flattened skull, upright triangular ears, a pointed, slightly upturned snout, and a long bushy tail (or brush).

Twelve species belong to the monophyletic "true foxes" group of genus Vulpes. Approximately another 25 current or extinct species are always or sometimes called foxes; these foxes are either part of the paraphyletic group of the South American foxes, or of the outlying group, which consists of the bat-eared fox, gray fox, and island fox. Foxes live on every continent except Antarctica. By far the most common and widespread species of fox is the red fox (Vulpes vulpes) with about 47 recognized subspecies. The global distribution of foxes, together with their widespread reputation for cunning, has contributed to their prominence in popular culture and folklore in many societies around the world. The hunting of foxes with packs of hounds, long an established pursuit in Europe, especially in the British Isles, was exported by European settlers to various parts of the New World.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Constitution score increases by 1.

Age

Foxes mature at 6 months and live around 5 years... but nobody knows what happens when they've been awakened by some weird and wonky magical experimentation. 

Alignment

Foxes are beasts, and as such are unaligned. You however, are above nature, and thus, have the capability to choose between good and evil. Most awakened creatures take on the alignment of their creator, if the creator was good to them, while others strike out and choose their own path. Thus, awakened foxes can have any such alignment that they wish. 

Size

Foxes are about 30lbs, 35in as full grown adults. Your size is small.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Fury of the Small

When you damage a creature with an attack or a spell and the creature’s size is larger than yours, you can cause the attack or spell to deal extra damage to the creature. The extra damage equals your level. Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Keen Senses

You have proficiency in the Perception skill.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Beast.
