Homebrew Charr Species Details
Charr live like true workers, they almost never put down their tool, and if they do it's to eat and sleep. The only times they ever aren't hard at work is when their fighting between themselves for power.
Hailing from a strange and distant land, wandering Charr are catlike humanoids, similar to Tabaxi, but instead of thin limbs built for speed, Charr have a big lion like build, driven by the progress of their people and proving their strength to one another, splitting into three main factions and holding games of power and fights to prove which is strongest. The three main factions are the Iron Legion, Blood Legion and the Ash Legion.
Gladiatorial Fighters
Charr have an innate fighting capability, always trying to prove to one another that they are the best at what they do. They're often stubborn and have a short fuse when it comes to humans. A few centuries after the great collapse, humans and Charr fought together, however the Humans betrayed the Charr in the final battle, leaving many to die and many to suffer.
However, not all Charr are satisfied with such a life. Many Charr decide to wander the lands, seeking power beyond their own tribe. They seek out stories, artifacts, and lore. Those who survive this period of wanderlust return home in their elder years to share news of the outside world. In this manner, the Charr often remain isolated but never ignorant of the world beyond their home.
Commanding Voice
Charr are renowned for their loud voices, especially when it comes to an argument, but this works in their favor in battle. Due to their voices being easy to hear, they often make excellent commanders and leaders, empowering people with their voices. In the heat of battle, an inspirational speech could be all it takes to motivate your men to rally up and take down the opposition.
However this also makes them a difficulty when drunk, as it is assumed that they can't turn off their loud volume, generally wanting to be the center of attention doesn't help this either.
True Efficiency
When working together, Charr seem to achieve unbelievable things, just their hometown in the Black Citadel, in the Plains of Ashford, is a remarkable structure, towering into the sky and built with massive mechanical turrets in the wall that slide around their defenses. When the three factions aren't at war with each other they often climb to great heights in comparison to other races, but their innate fighting need often gets in the way of their potential.
Tinkers and Minstrels
Charr who seek a safer path to satisfy their obsessions become wandering tinkers and minstrels.
These Charr work in small troupes, usually consisting of an elder, more experienced Charr who guides up to four young ones learning their way in the world. They travel in small, colorful wagons, moving from settlement to settlement. When they arrive, they set up a small stage in a public square where they sing, play instruments, tell stories, and offer exotic goods in trade for items that spark their interest. Charr reluctantly accept gold, but they much prefer interesting objects or pieces of lore as payment.
These wanderers keep to civilized realms, preferring to bargain instead of pursuing more dangerous methods of sating their curiosity. However, they aren’t above a little discreet theft to get their claws on a particularly interesting item when an owner refuses to sell or trade it.
