Homebrew Awakened Cat Species Details

Awoken Cats are cats that have been given human-like intelligence and consciousness through magic. These cats are generally removed from their past life, but are also driven and guided by their base instincts in some cases. They might not pay much attention to ethics when it comes to killing for food, and probably won't care much for physical possessions, but will usually care for companionship with others if there are advantages to it (human or animal.)

Awoken Cats are generally difficult to tell apart from normal cats at first glance, but magic runs through their veins constantly and radiates outwards, making them identifiable to someone who may be experienced in magic. Awoken Cats are also quite adept at "paw-to-paw" melee combat, and can use their claws to slash at their targets. An Awoken Cat's consciousness can not be disrupted by magic, as it is built into their physical body in ways that normal magic isn't.

Awoken Cats can range from size and length depending on the breed (Main Coons can grow to over 24 pounds and 48 inches from nose to tail, whereas Scottish Folds can grow to 15 pounds and are far shorter from nose to tail.) It is up to the player to decide what breed their awoken cat is, and therefore their cat's specific size.
Awoken Cats also do not have hands, so technically they can not cast many spells or hold any weapons. This can be discussed with your Dungeon Master, but generally Awoken Cats have such powerful natural magic that they can cast most spells with more basic gestures, though they can not hold any weapons.

Awakened Cat Traits

Dex

Domestic Body

Awoken Cats, though highly intelligent, still (almost) have the body of your every day domestic house cat. They don't have all that much strength, but they more than make up for it with incredible senses and dexterity.
+3 Dex
+1 Wis
-1 Str
Due to their innate magic Awoken Cats are more resilient than average house cats, so hit dice are still dictated by class and followed as per Rules As Written, or per personal house rules.

Instincts

Cats have heightened senses in comparison to most humanoids, and this remains the same with Awoken Cats. Awoken Cats have proficiency in Perception.

Bred to Hunt

Domestic cats, while tame, are still elite hunters. They are able to sneak towards their prey with absolute silence, and pounce onto their quarry from a still position. Awakened Cats can leap their maximum distance from a stand-still, and add 1d4 to an unarmed attack performed after an Awakened Cat has jumped onto an opponent from a distance of at least 10 feet.

Built for Leaping

Awakened Cats take half of all fall damage

Darkvision

Cats are experts at moving and hunting in the dark, and have Darkvision up to 60 feet.

Language

Awakened Cats can speak one language of their choosing, and also may speak with other felines they run into on their travels. Awoken Cats can not read at first, but given the drive to do so can slowly learn to read the language that they primarily speak.

Claw Attack

Your claws grant you a natural weapon. As an action you may make a claw attack and deal 1d4 plus your dexterity modifier in slashing damage. You are proficient in this attack.

Asher’s Unseen Servant

Asher has perfected the Unseen Servant spell. The spell lasts indefinitely.
