Homebrew Wild Hybrid Species Details

Wild Hybrids typically (but not always) come from three causes:

  • Ancient and powerful arch-druids or nature deities, who when angered punish a agressor of their  grove or domain using wild magic to fuse him with a pure animal, making the assailant anew and giving him a new life to make amens.
  • The wild forces of chaos, when they surge randomly in the wild and open spaces of the world a traveller and his pet (or dinner) can be consumed by the sheer energy and become one.
  • Aspiring wizards or druids, who accidentally fuse themselves in the process of experimentation, be it with a subject or a pet

Wild hybrids awake with few memories, but retain gained skills from their previous lives, flashes of any of the fusees’ past lives can come back in dreams or moments of extreme stress

Wild hybrids have only been observed within four conditions, as it is believed when these aren’t met the fusing would not generate a wild hybrid, they’d generate either a lycanthrope or an monstrosity, these four are:

  1. The Humanoid in question must be either a human or partially human, it’s believed that’s because only humans in their vast adaptability can fully absorb the essence of an animal
  2. The beast is at most one fourth and at least one tenth of the humanoid’s height, if not the result would’ve been a lycanthrope or the changes would’ve been too small to notice
  3. The beast is non-magical and less intelligent than the humanoid, if not the beast would’ve been the dominant one in the fusion
  4. One or both of the participants were unwilling and both alive, if not the fusion would’ve functioned differently; creating a shifter.

Wild hybrids after the transition tend towards being much more animalistic and chaotic than before.

The wild hybrid can change between the forms of the original animal and humanoid at will, the transformation takes between forty and fifty seconds and all the clothes will merge into the next body, but held items and backpacks will fall to the ground. The forms of both are mostly the same from before the transformation with small changes, the eye colours will become the same and the humanoid will develop mannerisms of the species of animal (chasing small animals, clucking, howling, etc) and be physically closer to the animal in few ways (hairier, slightly scaled skin, longer nails, etc), The animal will be slightly taller than before.

After Fusing both souls will remain in the body, with the humanoid in almost full control, the animal mostly watches and comments in the mind of the humanoid, but if it objects to something the humanoid is doing it can try to stop him [the DM chooses when the animal would object, and the player rolls a d6 DC 2, on a fail the animal (DM) will take control of the body for 1d4 minutes].
